Quick, go warn all the volcanologists overseeing the place! They probably haven't realized that. 😉 Seriously, it's just not that kind of a volcano. Professionap volcanologists are making sure everyone is safe. If they're letting people go this close, it's safe. :)
@Leitis_Fella3 жыл бұрын
Iceland is fed by deep-mantle basaltic rock (Bulk Earth composition is mafic, meaning Fe and Mg-rich). That means that Geldingadalur has very little if any water in its lava, and has low viscosity due to lack of silica polymerization. Because of this, most basalt eruptions do not explode into huge, kilometers-high ash plumes, and will flow into valleys and ridges around a volcano. That means most basaltic eruptions are "safer" to approach. The lava itself poses more of a threat on flatter terrain like Hawaii, where it's hard to tell where it will flow, so these Icelanders have the advantage of having higher ground to retreat to. Some of those lava flows will still give you sunburn and possibly welder's eye if you stand too close, plus you have to worry about noxious gases. But you only have to worry about falling/airborne lava if you're right up against a crater or a fissure in these types of volcanoes.
@gerardkenny6203 жыл бұрын
Look up white island disaster. Only been over a year all those people lives changed forever cause they wanted to see a volcano up close. Nature is unpredictable and I wouldn't put my hands in a professional when we can even get the weather right a day in advance.
