Chess With Secret Drawbacks

This chess variant recently released and it's really great - both players have a SECRET drawback, and there's a pool of like 150 secret drawbacks.
This makes the game much more interesting, as there's a meta of trying to trick your opponent into taking weak pieces, make 'bluff' threats, even disguise your drawback as something else, or predict your opponent's drawback.
Gameplay starts 1:00, I explain the basic rules before then though.

This would definitely necessitate putting numbers on the pieces to tell you the move count (counted without taking account for the opponent's drawback).

so you literally can't do anything on your first turn? or most of your turns until a row is freed up enough unless you mean that only your own pieces count (and that the piece you're currently moving doesn't count) which is more reasonable

IMO move is a distinct action from capture, the current terms are "move", "capture", and "non-capturing move" which I don't personally like

@@IcelyPuzzles Probably to make the verbiage make more sense, a "capture" can be written as a "capturing move." That way, it's obvious that "capturing move" and "non-capturing move" are both subsets of the set of "move"s.

That Sniper vs Torchlight was pretty interesting. As one couldn't capture the ones close to him, the other couldn't as easily move in enemy territory.

New drawback idea - Find the opponent drawback : Your opponent's drawback is one of these 30 drawbacks. Before you can capture your opponent's king, you must guess your opponent's drawback correctly. If you guess wrong, you lose.

21:54 The opponent did not have to guess your drawback. You missed the white bishop. It would be a checkmate in normal chess. Even if you could take the queen, the opponent knew that white could take your king with the bishop.

It's really the worst variant, it's almost impossible to figure out the opponents drawback because there are so many drawbacks and many of them have effects that are really vague and ambiguous. Its super rng whether you get one that's practically impossible or not. If you really want to have rng decide your victory then roll some dice.

The only three moves that put black in check are able to be blocked or captured. Qa8+ is followed by Bb8, Qb8+ followed by Bxb8 or Kxb8, Nb6+ followed by Bxb6. Interestingly enough, because of the opponent's drawback, Qa8+ WAS checkmate, but the other two moves were not

i REALLY hate your idea of "better" UI im sure if it was implemented it could be toggled so I dont have a reason to not want it to be possible, but really? you had a hard time figuring out what moves are "next" to pawns... cmon now
