Who still learns about all of the legendary American stories including of American heroes in school? Paul Bunyan, Davy Crockett, even the songs, like "John Brown's Baby".

I think Ichabod Crane was the inspiration for Shaggy of Scooby Doo. Both are tall and lanky, both despite being skinny have an insane obsession over food & both can be cowardly.

My main problem with Bing Crosby was that from everything I've heard he was really monstrous and abusive towards his wife and children in his lifetime, but I like some of his songs regardless. Myself I really might have preferred Basil Rathbone to have been the narrator on the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and having him narrate it in the style of his Edgar Allan Poe readings bringing out some of the more ominous and darker elements of the Washington Irving story.
