It was always poetic how Ulquiorra, the aspect of Emptiness, was defeated not only by Ichigo, but by Ichigo and Orihime. Orihime is pretty much the cardinal opposite of everything Ulquiorra always was, she was always unconditionally kind and emotional and that just threw him off completely. Then comes Ichigo, a personification of nothing but duty and willing to self-sacrifice to protect others around him. It makes all the more sense as to why Ulquiorra never killed them both, even when he killed Ichigo the first time he say "if you survive this, go away" showing that some part of him legitimately hoped Ichigo would survive specially because he could've just completely incinerated his body to make sure Ichigo was dead but chose not to. Same with Orihime, the moment she stopped being a priority for Aizen Ulquiorra could easily kill her for defying him but instead was hellbent of destroying their will and winning the philosophical battle. Both Ichigo and Orihime defeatead Ulquiorra together by finally making him understand humanity

Ulquiorra's backstory was revealed to us in the Third Bleach Databook "Umasked". In it we see that Ulquiorra comes from a clan of Hollows that's pressed and forms/is born at the bottom of a crater. All those from his clan are all black and possess mouths, Ulquiorra was born all white and possessed no mouth, in appearance close to his first Resurreccion form. Not only that Ulquiorra possessed no sensations, he could not hear, smell, or feel a sensation of touch and all those that follow these sensations, and without possessing a mouth he also could not taste or even eat, he didn't even possess the appetite that Hollows are infamous for. Ulquiorra still possessed his eyes though, and with them his sight, tying into Ulquiorra telling Orihime that if he can't see something then it doesn't exist. But he was so different from others of his clan of Hollows that the others tried to eat him, and he was forced to kill them instead. Ulquiorra may not have possessed any of the sensations that connect him to reality other than sight, he still possessed human emotions and those could experience all of this as if a human would fear, confusion, etc. After he kills the other members of his clan, he wanders off for some unspecified amount of time eventually coming across a giant Hueco Mundo Tree, those trees we saw earlier in the arc that are basically just minerals in the form of trees, Ulquiorra was entranced by it because he felt relatable to it, not having any meaning to exist, unknown why it even exists at all. He attempts to merge with the tree, in doing so chipping at his Hollow mask turning him into an Arrancar in the process, and at the end of it feeling a strong sense of satisfaction/contentment just to stay there. A quote from Ulquiorra during this chapter describes how everything that Ulquiorra doesn't see doesn't exist to him, as he has no other way of interacting with it outside of seeing it, and that even the things that reflect across his eyes, the things he can see, hold absolutely no meaning to him either. For the most part I think I told this pretty well, I may be missing some things, but I'm not sure. And actually, Ulquiorra's Segunda Entapa form (2nd release) may have been close to the appearance of the other members of his clan, and this form has actually been said to represent Ulquiorra's second despair. Hence, why when he releases it he says to show Ichigo "true despair".

How i see it, Ichigo was in full hollow form (or at least as much of a hollow a non hollow can be) not in shinigami form... Hollows have high regeneration, meaning the hole he had while in hollow form was his actual hole as a hollow... When he turned back to human/shinigami that hollow hole got patched as part of the transformation, not as healing... Ulquiorra was the one who explained how arrancars mostly lost that regeneration when they left being full hollows and went to being arrancars... ichigo was the opposite...

Remember when Ichigo met Nel she said something about single digits. And Ulquiorra said something about Yammy not beating them at "that" level.

Regarding Ulquiorras feelings towards Orihime.. actually in the manga theres a poem that kubo wrote and its Ulquiorras perspective( if you read the manga Kubo always do poems and it is always dedicated on one characters pov) and its Titled The Lust... This is the poem: I envy because of the heart I gutton becuase of the heart I covet because of the heart I am prideful because of the heart I slot because of the heart I rage because of the heart Because of the heart I LUST EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU! through this poem itself Kubo confirmed that Ulquiorra really did developed "romantic feelings" towards Orihime. Not just purely curiousity towards her being a human. Honestly when i first read the poem my heart shutters even more Knowing that he really developed those Kind of feelings to Orihime.. Especially that very last line.. The I lust everything about you! like man this poem is really deep and it makes more great impact to Ulquiorras already interesting character.... and it kinda made more sad... I just want to point out something that I've noticed in past episodes up to this one ... Have you ever thought how strange it was that each time Ichigo got healed, his clothes also reformed ? At the end of his hollow state, his wounds were fully healed... Yet his shinigami uniform did not repair itself this time ?

Ulquiora didn't speak for all -humanity- hollonity, he was speaking about himself that he give up strength for healing (high speed regeneration). And through out the whole Arancar saga we were reminded that number 11 above is base on their birth as an Arancar *with* the exception of the above 10 Arancar call Espada (10 swords or something) and Nel her self said that she never heard of 3 digit arancar when Donpanini dude debut, and the face that 10 is technically 2 digit... You see what I'm saying? It's a foreshadowing right in our face all along.

So some interesting trivia about Ulquiorra, in the third Bleach Character Book Tite Kubo created a bonus chapter about Ulquiorra, and it revealed that Ulquiorra wasn’t ever a former human, he actually came into existence as a Vasto Lorde from the very beginning. So it makes me wonder if Ulquiorra even qualifies for having a “human soul” to be purified and sent to Soul Society (or Hell if the human soul was evil in life). If he doesn’t (and he just dissipates like when a Quincy kills a Hollow) it kinda adds further pathos to how his Espada Aspect of Death was Nihilism/Emptiness. Also Yammy being the 0 Espada caused so much debate with the Bleach fandom, to this day there are still debates and disagreements over who among Yammy Espada 0, Starrk Espada 1, or Ulquiorra Espada 4 is the actual strongest Espada, as Kubo never really made it super clear. Personally, I am in the camp that Ulquiorra’s Segunda Etapa being a secret to even Aizen implies that Ulquiorra was actually the strongest of the Espada since no other Espada has ever achieved the second stage level (plus Ulquiorra’s Espada tattoo also disappeared when going into his Segunda Etapa).
