That moment when ichigo goes vasto lorde is what separates real bleach fans from fake ones, those who aren't observant or don't pay attention to the story will consider it an asspull even though the signs were all there.

In the manga, Ulquiorra straight up ripped Uryuu's arm off. The first time Ichigo died, white was about to take over. Remember Orihime was trying to heal him but white's spiritual pressure was surrounding the wound. Luckily she healed him on time. But this time, white showed up for real.

i got this from a youtube video and i think it really helps with understanding the dynamic of ichigo and ulquiorra during this arc. Ulquorra is the epitome of hollow in both his actual species and the fact that the has a literal hole in his chest. This is meant to represent his lack of heart and emotion he doesn’t believe in the heart nor does he understand it. After he captures orihime you could say that he gained ichigo’s heart. With the removal of ichigo’s heart as the fights go on we see that ichigo becomes more and more hollow. He’s able to use his mask for longer periods of time the design of the mask changes which is an indication of the hollow within him strengthening. There is even this dialogue with grimjow like “you not here to save her you are here to fight”. We see that ichigo becomes more and more hollow to the point where he obviously loses to ulquiorra as he is trying to show that the heart doesn’t exist and the only reason ichigo even comes back is when orihime being his heart calls out to him. He kinda completely delves into that hollowness into what ulquiorra once was and its represented by having that hole in his chest. By lacking his heart orihime is kinda taken away from him temporarily in this instance. He’s literally dead so you could say he is as far removed from her as he could possibly be. Ulquiorra by comparison is much more human by saving uryuu from ichigo. And we see that ulquiorra finally actually dies when he finally understands what human emotions is, when he gains a heart. Reflected by his last statement “in this palm is a heart”.

the anime overdid the hell outta the Kurosaki-kuns, shit really did Orihime's character injustice.

This fight is beyond Legendary!!! This one is always at least in my top 5 for greatest anime battles of all time!!! The slow burn of the previous episodes was worth it for this fight!!

ulquiorras past was not shown in anime or maybe manga but in his past he was a natural born vasto lorde he was never a soul or human and has a bunch of sibling and they lived in the cave all are vasto lorde but his sibling are black and hes the only white one his siblings are all just sleeping but they hate him becuz hes too distracting due to his white so he left and while he was in the desert he found a tree and he walk through it and hes mask breaks making him a natural arrancar and thats the reason hes nihilism

I was MIND BLOWN reading this fight as it came out in the manga week to week back in the day. Especially seeing Ichigo just straight up death, completely blank stare and all. Amazing shit and probably what made Bleach my GOAT. And even today it is still amazing and deep on so many levels. What I really love is how we have Ulquiorra on one side, a hollow that becomes more human as the fight progresses. With him asking questions, trying to break Ichigo’s will instead of just killing him, becoming emotional and finally concluding in him understanding the human heart. While on the other side we have Ichigo, a human that becomes more hollow like as the fight goes on. At first even refusing to use his mask, then trying to fight with it and eventually becoming a creature driven purely by instinct. In this case his instinct to protect Orihime.

Now when the fight’s over and we see that there is more to Ulquiorra, you should read Ulquiorra Unmasked - it’s a backstory for him and it’s only 5 pages. You said it yourself that Ulquiorra is #1 Espada for you and I agree with that. His backstory, the way he died (if you notice, he turned to sand…and Hueco Mundo is nothing but sand), Uryu’s statements, his overwhelming presence etc, all of this heavily implies he’s actually the strongest.

Oddly enough I've watched probably 20+ reactors and you are now one of 2 that figured out that was White Ichigo.

This is one of the fights I was most excited about you seeing all the way back when you started in ep1, it's so damn good!

One of my favorite signs of foreshadowing from Kubo in the series is when ichigo fights white ichigo and defeats him, and white ichigo gives him the speech to not die or he’ll take control hence this whole transformation. But the best part is that he says he’ll literally stomp on his head, which he actually does to Ulquiorra.

When someone powers up and their energy starts raining from the sky, you're in trouble, when they give you tips and a heads up, you're no longer in trouble, you're screwed. When Ulquiorra threw that spear at Ichigo, he dodged it, but Ulquiorra threw a second one immediately after. Ulquiorra is a very literal being and has a hard time grasping concepts like "Heart", he was getting frustrated with Ichigo because he was refusing to give up in a hopeless situation and he could not understand why, despite trying his hardest to gain some understanding. So, you have now gotten to the point of one of Bleaches biggest debates. Is Ulquiorra the strongest Espada? This is a very heated debate that has gone on for years and will likely never be resolved, have fun with that lol "He looks dead" Well he is, so that would make sense. 44:51 I personally find this "Tiger like growl" to be weird and I prefer the dub version of this form, it's more Hollow like and worth checking out if you can without spoilers. 45:05 interesting fact, the chain on Ichigo's sword connects to this "Chain of fate" (The chain on a souls chests) and thats why he was able to summon his sword to himself. White was able to slip past Ulquiorra's "pesquisa" (ability to detect spiritual pressure) with a "Sonido" because one of the big differences between flash step and a sonido is that a sonido hides your spiritual pressure when you use it, although if you are roughly as fast as the person using it you can see them (I believe this works for all fast movement techniques). 52:54 For the most part White is in control (well out of control if we're being honest), but Ichigo has one input and that is to protect Orihime, but that also means that everyone else is an enemy for White. 54:02 so it looks like White has high speed regeneration on top of all his power? Dude is super OP. This is one of the saddest deaths in Bleach, Ulquiorra was finally able to grasp the concept of the heart just as he died. Theres a theory as to how he died, but I cannot get into that just yet. Great reaction and was worth the long watch.

This just makes you appreciate how INSANELY lucky Soul Society was when Byakuya was unable to kill Ichigo in their fight. Killing Ichigo is a horrible idea, as the final boss music will start playing and White will come out firing nukes. Also, watch the intro to the Hell movie, as the first 2 minutes are a remaster of this fight, with some additional content and a massive upgrade on the production.

Without a doubt my favorite fight not only in bleach but in all of anime (that I’ve seen). Man when I saw the green rain pour down when Ulquiorra did his first release, I was speechless lmao. My friend was watching with me and wanted to see my reaction to the fight and I was in awe the whole time lol. Ulquiorra’s second resurrection and Ichigo’s full hollow form are my favorite forms in anime too, but that has a lot of contenders for sure.
