ICM Photography Tips for Creative photo Art. With Intentional Camera Movement photography, you can create captivating artwork with ease.
The great thing about ICM is that there is no wrong or right. The ultimate goal is to produce an image that is pleasing to look without having to follow the rules of composition, lighting, exposure and so many other things that as photographers we need to worry about for a great image.
ICM allows you to experiment. It allows you to get things "wrong" and still enjoy the results. It gives you latitude to do things you might not usually attempt and it allows the viewer to see your scene in a different, perhaps more interpretative way.
I love the fact there's no right or wrong about it. I love the fact that I am able to do extreme things in post production that would utterly ruin a normal landscape photo and create a new, different bit of art from the last slider adjustment. So, strap in for 20 minutes and experience the release of ICM and, hopefully, you'll get some ideas to create your own.

You have fully captured the way I see the world without my glasses! Jokes aside, that's a style of photography that was never on my radar. I really want to try it for myself this weekend. The photos have an almost ethereal look to them. I really like the effect. Thanks for making this video!

It can be SO easy to get some amazing shots. I think that the real effort comes in when you process the image and there are so many things you can do to turn a single shot into multiple bits of art. Check out Kate Barclay on Instagram. She's a real master of this genre and a local photographer to me too. Tell her I sent you.

I’m just getting into this genre and am fascinated by it. Your complete explanations as to what you’re doing and why help immensely. Your vertical tracking is also razor sharp, especially for handheld. That’s not something you learn during your first day’s outing.

You only get to see the better images! ICM is very hit and miss because of the mostly unrepeatable and imperfect nature of the movements. But when an image hits, it can blow your sock off. Thak you for your support

Thanks for your support. I would turn IBIS off. I never turn AF off but as you're capturing movement and blurs, a out of focus starting point might work. Never knowingly tried it.

If you are using the insta 360 to film how do we not see the mounting stick?

The Insta 360 360 degree cameras have an overlapping field of view which allows the systems to make the stick invisible. I would love to tell you that I'm just really clever, but the cameras are all capable of making the sticks invisible. Now, if only it could make it look like you're not holding it as well..... :-)

You are getting very arty, with some nice affects I have not tried this genre yet have seen it in Digital Photographer issue 251 page 29 yours are as good or better all the best.

Kind of you to say so, Mike. Much of the "skill" in getting good ICM shots is identifying the right subject and getting the "move" right for that subject. The danger is that you shoot literally hundreds and then have a further job sifting though them all, comparing, contrasting and finding the image(s) that you like best. This is very much more about pleasing art that getting it right or wrong.
