The amount of times I've been harassed by squirrels when I came too close to their home, it makes sense why a domesticated squirrel would protect your home as well. Also that Joey didn't attack the officer investigating, because he saw the two of you communicating and obviously not in a dangerous situation, the same way a dog does.

As kids we lived in a large wooded family compound along the Mississippi River, which had lots of oak trees -- and therefore squirrels. If there were orphaned baby squirrels, my grandparents and parents (dedicated conservationists, even in those days in the early 1950s) had us kids care of them, feed them, until they could be released safely back into the wild. Over the years, we had a yardful of tame squirrel visitors who remembered the care they had received from us.😊

@@nanhand99 did you even read what I said? the whole reason it's bad to release pets is because they have problems taking care of themselves. wild animals are afraid of humans because they fear potential predators. pets are trained to stop being afraid of strange big animals who can kill them, and trained to get food from humans instead of the normal way. it's lazy, self centered and careless to just give up and leave them outside to fend for themselves after *you* chose to alter their behavior to be a pet

Have faith in JESUS CHRIST as LORD and SAVIOR for HE SAVES from hell❗️ *What is the Gospel?* The true gospel is the good news that God saves sinners. Man is by nature sinful and separated from God with no hope of remedying that situation. But God, by His power, provided the means of man’s redemption in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of GOD, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Romans 10:9 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. JESUS CHRIST can come anytime! Just Believe ❤️ Love you and GOD BLESS

My dad brought home an injured baby chipmunk in '94. We named him Alvin, and nursed him back to health, and eventually released him in the wild near our family cabin. He came to visit us for a couple of years after we released him. He would actually come in the cabin and climb on us, or eat out of our hands. He eventually got massive and lost an eye in a fight presumably. He was special.

I'm going to be an animal rehabilitationist when I get my job, they say not to touch wild animals if you can help it because they will trust you and become dependent and then think it's best to trust others that actually want to harm them, it's best to leave them wild if you can help it. But I'm glad and so pround that your dad nursed the chipmunk back to life. Such bravery and courage to do something so sweet to an innocent creature who means nothing but pure care and love. I'm sorry to hear that he lost an eye, animals deal with more pain than we do. I saw a tail of a squirrel, like the fur part somewhere and I was stunned if the squirrel was surviving without it.

We had a pet squirrel. Raised from a just barely fuzzy pup. We named it Rocky from the cartoon show with Bullwinkle. Rocky was always playing/teasing our cats. They all got along well. When Rocky matured we discovered that he was she! Then the name changed to Rockette. SHE was always very defensive of anyone until we told her they were ok. Then, she would accept them and be her normal squirrel self begging for treats and getting all kinds of attention. At some point, she decide she wanted to make more squirrels and she bolted out the door, made a boy friend and had a family. She would always bring the kids around for treats and attention but, over time, kind of faded away. She was always missed but, we felt better once we had our pet blue jay, named BJ,or course. BJ also played with the cats and was one heck of a door bell. BJ was a clown and would imitate our telephone ringer when we were in the shower. Dare bird! Got the wife out of the shower a dozen time doing that! BJ also would do the Wolf Whistle and Hey You whistle. He did it when the kids were walking home from school and confused the heck out of the girls! The girls first were looking to see who was doing that and then saw BJ on the wife's shoulder. They were instantly tickled to meet him. He lived a long life of about 10 years and in his last few his feathers went from blue and black to almost all white. We had many pets such as above but also a dog, and some turtles and snakes and a brown bat, or two. Yes. We have a very strange family and there is rarely a dull moment in our house. LOL

Many years ago, a friend of mine had a flying squirrel as a pet. Its favorite spot was the valance curtain next to the sofa. One day, an Avon lady came, sat on the sofa, and opened her case. From habit, the squirrel glided down to her shoulder. Just as the squirrel's toenails touched her shoulder, the squirrel realized she wasn't somebody he knew. The squirrel screamed in her ear and ran away. The Avon lady screamed and ran from the house. My friend's family had to gather up her belongings for her because she refused to go back into the house.

My squirrel Zosi "2008-2013" was exactly the same. Although he could be very possessive, I would take him on daily walks and bike rides and people would constantly come up wanting pictures etc, and he would never attack anyone. "I wouldn't let people hold him for safety and legal reasons" but sometimes people would get too close and he'd run up their leg or something, just playfully. But things were very different when it came to my son or any girl I brought home. Basically he would become jealous and possessive. Nothing serious tho, just flicking his tail and making quick jabs at whoever he didn't want around me. But then one day my son came over while I was still at class and thought he would just play my computer for the hour until I got home, but the moment he stepped inside the house without me, he saw Zosi and thought he'd just ignore him like usual, but this time Zosi immediately charged and leapt on him, ran up and around to his back and started to scratch his neck area "minor superficial ones" but my son panicked and instinctivly grabbed him to throw him off, and the moment he did that, Zosi bit down and chewed his finger so hard that it fractured his finger bone. It was the only time he had ever hurt anyone. After that incident, I had to get a large cage for when my son came over because even if I was home after that, Zosi just didn't like or trust him anymore. Another time, while on one of the walks or bike rides we would do together daily, usually with a harness and leash, but this day we were walking and two pit bulls charged down a driveway while the dogs owners were bringing in groceries and in that split second, my Zosi immediately ran down from the top of my hat "where he liked to hang out" and ran straight at the charging dogs. Worried he'd be killed, I had to jerk him back so he flew backwards, but he got the message and ran back onto my shoulder ready to fight, madly flicking his tail while the dogs viciously barked circling around us just about a foot away. His brave little soul wouldn't back down from anything that he thought was a danger to me. I really miss him dearly.

Thats funny because I had a squirrel that was the same way, kind of. She was fine with my husband and my daughter- my husband was tall and her favorite activity was to hide somewhere high and jump onto his shoulder when he wasn't paying attention- but for some reason she was having no part of my teenage son. He'd always been nice to her and of course, wanted to play with her like everyone else and was very gentle but she just had it in for him. He's always been very calm and quiet so it wasn't his demeanor.

Can confirm! I've had 2 pet squirrels over the years, and they would only ever perch on my dad or myself. God forbid if anyone but us tried to pick them up...
