Iddi Amin's grandson to lobby government to honour the former president

Former President Idi Amin’s son, Taban Amin Tampo wants the NRM government to set aside a day on the calendar to have his grandfather recognised for the contribution he made to Uganda. Amin Tampo, who is the new elect MP for Kibanda North in Kiryandongo district told NTV in an interview that he will seek a consensus among his family members before seeking audience with the president Museveni over this matter. Tampo, who was elected on the NRM ticket to Parliament says despite his granddad’s legacy, he has decided to work with President Museveni to make a good name for the family.

I hope there's a monument in Uganda to honor Mwalimu Julius Nyerere for the sacrifices he made to liberate Uganda from the evils of Idi Amin & his hitmen. I was a child but remember living in terror not knowing who would be killed next by Amin's thugs.

Taban should be given lessons on Uganda's history. Please take a tour of the dungeons of Makindye, Lubiri, & Nakasero and Mabira forest where tens of thousands of Uganda were killed and tortured by Idi Amin and his bandits. How many families lost their loved ones by thugs dragging them from their homes in the middle of the night. What contributions did Amin make to deserve recognition? Taban, your father was the butcher of Africa from 1971 to 1979 and you should take no pride in this.

There needs to be a large memorial to remember all those killed by Iddi Amin including Benedicto Kiwanuka, Kungu Karumba, Janani Luwum, Benoni Ocan, Dora Bloch, Oboth Ofumbi and so forth

To suggest honour recognition of Idd Amin is the most serious disgusting matter. When I remember the bad things Idi Amin did to the people of Uganda and the troubles he caused to Tanzania even mentioning his name I feel like vomiting. Our good economy of Tanzania have never returned to its original state, we lost our people during that Kagera war! And today an idiot descending from that same blood is asking his grand dad to honorary be recognized! Shame on you and your ancestor idi amini nduli.

Kabali, my apologies to you and family's loss. But hey, I opened the door for you to respond to my statement. This is the first time to my knowledge someone who lost family members during Idi Amin's reign responded on KZfaq. Your response was the aftermath of the loss of life over forty years ago. Outside Uganda, Idi really was a folk hero to African people worldwide. No one worldwide doubted what he said about Asian-Ugandans. It was then when he struck a nerve worldwide. Once again, sorry for family losses.
