I give a quick look at this very compact and reasonably priced reflecting telescope which is on a Dobsonian mount and designed for using on a table top. Unfortunately this telescope is discontinued, but here is a link to the next nearest model I could find bit.ly/39rp3GQ

Cracking little episode. 😁 When I bought a Dobson telescope, I made the mistake of buying the most powerful magnification it could technically handle, thinking I would get great images of Jupiter. I bought a 3.5mm lens thinking that I would get 185 times magnification. I soon discovered that you needed near "perfect still" nights with no turbulence in the air what so ever, and a tripod that was bombproof steady. Without such perfect conditions, and sturdy kit, all I got was a blurry wobbly image of what I wanted to see. Sort of spoiled the experience. So I became more pragmatic and went for a more modest zoom range and my viewing pleasure increased exponentially.

Not discontinued. There was a supply / demand issue for a few months, meaning a number of UK dealers had no stock for a while. We recently had delivery of the 130P and 150P Heritage. Nice video BTW, and good to see someone doing there own content rather than hijacking clips from others. Well done.

For a camera lens a faster F ratio gathers more light but not a telescope. The aperture affects the amount of light that is gathered. A 130mm telescope gathers the same amount of light no matter what the F ratio is. The faster scopes have wider field of views and lower magnifications.
@starman1969

It's interesting how astronomers use different terms for f ratios than photographers. As a photographer going into astronomy, I found it quite hard to adapt.

I am guessing to go up on the moors or other countryside places, this wouldn't be practical unless you brought a fold out table to put it on. I am guessing a telescope with a tripod would be better?
@starman1969

Maybe, or just a bigger version with a larger base. Dobsonian telescopes are very popular for their simplicity. I've been out to far off places with friends who have them, and they've always managed to find a place to set them up.

I wouldn’t go any less than a 6” dobsonian. 8” would be preferable. It eliminates the want to upgrade from a small unit such as this thing.

I disagree. I own an 8inch Skywatcher Explorer 200p, Skywatcher Heritage 130p, Helios 130p (same as Skywatcher Explorer 130p), Celestron AstroMaster 90AZ, Skywatcher StarTravel 80 (the famous ST80) and gave away a 40070mm refractor to my nephews/niece. My Skywatcher 200p rarely gets used because the weather is too unpredictable. Countless times i have set it up for the clouds to roll in and rain. I have helped people out for years with telescopes and also pushed the "Get a Dob" mantra and almost everyone who bought the 8inch opted for a small refractor on a tripod or the Skywatcher Heritage 130p because of space (no pun intended) and weight constraints, some have houses/flats but no garden and others because they wanted to use it for daytime as well as night with a right side up view. And with recent price increases, that also is going to be a barrier for now until peoples income increases. My ST80 and Heritage 130p and other telescopes have shown me much more through an upstairs south facing bedroom window than my 8inch ever has simply because of their ease of setup. My ST80 stopped down to 60mm has shown my the red spot on Jupiter and the Cassini division on Saturn's Rings and oodles of messier objects so its not all doom and gloom with a small telescope. When we were in lockdown, i had a broken pair of 50mm binoculars so i used the front lens cell of one with a zoom eyepiece to see what would happen, well, the world didn't explode but what i did see was Saturns rings (no Cassini division, needs 60mm refractor minimum) and 2 faint bands on Jupiter and then the image broke down because of the very fast binocular optics. Get the biggest you can afford, manage to use and won't neglect because a telescope in a cupboard is as much use as not having one.

@starman1969

All reflectors have the eyepiece in the same place. It is just the design of the telescope. If you would prefer an eyepiece around the back of the telescope, I would recommend a Maksutov or Schmidt Cassegrain.

@@springbloom5940 The Heritage 130P/AWB One Sky will indeed happily use a Barlow. Like the diameter of EPs for this scope, it just has to be a 1.25in Barlow. I bought my 130P in July 2018, and got the Barlow in an EP kit, a month later.
