Ideation - developing design ideas. Here's a liberating way to keep ideas flowing. Before we start ‘developing’ ideas, ideation will provide plenty of options to take forwards. #ideation #designideation #productdesign #industrialdesign

I recently came across your videos and they are so helpful and calming. You are the Bob Ross of product design. I was just wondering if you would ever release longer more drawn out videos? The short videos are perfect and get to the point, but it would be nice to have something to sketch along with. Thanks for the great videos! Cannot wait for more.

Thank you, that’s great feedback! I’m contemplating making full-length videos of all of the processes and put them on my website for people to download. It’s a difficult balance to perfect when some people want short, snappy videos and others don’t. So yes, hopefully soon I’ll head down that route. Thanks again. Yours, Bob Ross 😂

This channel made me realize that i really like design and that i want to pursue a career in industrial design. When do you think is important to pay attention on the drawing and to make it the best looking as possible?
@productdesignermaker

That’s great news! It’s important for when you’re creating a portfolio. Potential employers want to see that you can do it, but it’s not always important to be able to produce great work traditionally. There are lots of was to do it digitally too. Hope this helps.

@@productdesignermaker it’s the truth! Also are there any books, or other KZfaq channels you recommend for beginners? I’m 17, and studying for my design college entrance exam, so I’m having trouble finding resources which are simplified but not too basic. Your channel has been a huge help so, any similar channels or resources?

Nice video, what a nice way of laying out this ideation phase. I'm trying to choose between a mechanical engineering course and design engineering course at the same uni. I like the content of the design course a bit more but I like them both. The mechanical course is more employable and difficult. Do you have any advice?
@productdesignermaker
@productdesignermaker 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you as always for the support! It’s really difficult to advise, and I bet you’ve done lots of research. My main suggestion would be to have a close look at the projects the graduates work on, when they’re in employment. You may get a better feel for which course to do based upon the kind of work you’ll spend many years honing your skills in. I hope this helps.

Another useful insight, thanks for sharing it. One question I have re paper, are you using standard A4/A3, particularly when you use markers, or something more substantial?
@productdesignermaker
@productdesignermaker 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. This is standard A3 photocopy paper. I tend to use high quality photocopy (laser) paper with markers but if it’s something more important, I’ll use marker paper. There’s no bleeding of ink. Hope this helps.
@CalcManufacturing
@CalcManufacturing 3 жыл бұрын
@@productdesignermaker thanks for this, useful to know. I’ve been trialling some the techniques you’ve demonstrated with the students, in particular the 1st ideation video, but I’ve also been playing around with markers myself. Bought myself some grayscale markers too - you’re costing me a small fortune! The reason I ask about paper is that naturally, there was bleed through to pages below in the pad however one of your glue gun videos talked about photocopying the ideas to have multiple copies on which to practice & you had them one beneath the other. I was curious if there was any bleed through into those. Keep up the fine work.
@productdesignermaker
@productdesignermaker 3 жыл бұрын
@@CalcManufacturing thank you. The ones I photocopied, I used high quality photocopy paper, designed for colour copying. Not the same as marker paper, but pretty good at resisting bleeding. But now as I think about it, I may have put marker paper in the photocopy machine. Either way, I hope this helps.
@CalcManufacturing
@CalcManufacturing 3 жыл бұрын
@@productdesignermaker absolutely, thank you for replying. I’m going trial putting a piece of watercolour paper beneath a sheet to ‘soak up’ any ink seeping through. I’ll look to better paper once I’ve got the skill base up! Look forward to future videos. All the best.

@productdesignermaker
@productdesignermaker 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I’m not too sure what your question means, sorry - but I’m trying to avoid specific ideas when I’m ideating. I have a rough idea and then I’m mostly playing with form, before developing a product (and considering the specifics). Hope this helps.
