In this episode, I'm looking for evidence that Civil War soldiers passed through or camped at this old homesite. Do I get confirmation? Watch and find out! Hope y'all enjoy and thanks as always for watching!

Thanks for this. I'm going to incorporate this in coming videos. Possibly a segment at the end of each episode that very quickly shows swinging over each find with target ID for those that want to see it. Appreciate the idea.

Bottom of a cane or top of umbrella possibly for the thimble looking thing. The big lead hook is part of a fire poker possibly? The sterling piece looks like it’s from a suspender buckle almost

Interesting. You think lead for a fire poker, seems like it would melt no? Sterling piece def could be suspenders. Thanks for the ideas!

Thanks Steven. I read tons of local history, books, academic papers, old newspapers, etc. Local library usually has lots of stuff. Also, use websites like Historic Aerials. Anything I think might help!

Hi, I’m new to your channel, and I hear you often mention that you use lemon juice to clean up your coins. How well would lemon juice work with copper coins like wheat penny’s for example? I also heard that apple cider vinegar works well too. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Rob.
@IDigHistory
@IDigHistory 4 ай бұрын
Hey Rob, appreciate you watching. I wouldn't recommend lemon juice for copper coins. You will take off the patina. I usually dry clean coppers very carefully with Andres coin pencils or a toothpick.
@user-qb3pg5ph4c
@user-qb3pg5ph4c 4 ай бұрын
@@IDigHistory Thank you for getting back to me. I will definitely order some of those Andre’s pencils and give it a try. As I don’t want to ruin that I find. I’m thinking about upgrading to a better metal detector with a built in pin pointer. Any suggestions? Say within $300? The one I’m using now doesn’t have one, and it’s frustrating to say the least.

I am looking for a newer detector. I am intrigued by the 2D on the Manticore. Is it worth the extra money for relic hunting?

So far, I'm loving it. The target trace display def adds another piece of data to ID'ing the target. I'm still learning it, but it's very precise and extremely sensitive. No regrets on buying it.

Are people usually willing to let you detect for free?
@IDigHistory
@IDigHistory Жыл бұрын
Yes, I've never paid to detect. Though I have mowed several yards and actually agreed to regularly mow and weedeat an old plantation home for access to the property any time I wanted. I did a tutorial video on how I go about getting permissions if you're interested. It's between episodes 33 and 34.
