Probably giving the cars behind him a heads up in case they weren't paying attention. Based on what he was saying and how he accelerated afterwards I bet someone almost rear ended him when he slowed down to avoid the out of control car.

the car horn's intended use is to warn other motorists of danger, not to angrily inform someone that they suck at driving.

@@Shirayumi9090 Except horns are forward facing. They are significantly less audible behind a vehicle, and audio warnings are practically useless at higher speeds. Emergency response drivers, in the UK at least, are told to make use of lights and position more above a certain speed because of this. If you want to warn people behind you of an issue in front, use the hazard lights, a clearly visible light warning aimed at those approaching from behind. Well, do that if your car has amber rear indicators. The US wants to cling to combined red indicator and brake lights, so people can't see when you're slowing if your indicating, so if your car doesn't have separate amber indicators at the rear, just prepare to be rear ended (which is to try to go completely limp in your seat so you can flop about without damaging muscles, etc as much, it's one way drunk and drug drivers seem to get away with far less severe injuries when they crash, they're too impaired to tense up before impact).

It makes sense to warn others. Speeding away instead of helping them doesn't make sense. Is that not a common thing in the US to check if they are okay? In Germany you can get fined for speeding away instead of helping.

The horn has multiple uses. You can for example use it to warn other drivers that there's danger ahead.

if you dont signal though, how is the other person supposed to know what you're doing? People slow down and veer right all the time (looking for parking, uber picking up someone, etc). This person looked like they were pulling over or something. Passing them makes sense (though I think the cam driver definitely couldve taken a second to assess before just immediately passing).

It's kind of a toss up as to whether it's intentional or not. The intersection is Harwin and Corporate down in Houston and a lot of the drivers through there are pants on head retarded. I've seen stupider things than this happen in that area.

Why, may I ask, would you shift into N while stopped, with an automatic transmission? You'd still have to keep the brake depressed, and you're having to do two extra actions. Maybe there's something I don't know?

@dlbstl To answer your question, after shifting to N, I apply the handbrake and then release the brake pedal and; thus, enjoy some brake-free time. Some traffic lights took an awful lot of time where I used to live and it was really annoying to keep depressing the brake pedal for 3 to 5 minutes consecutively.

Lots of places. It's meant as a yield so the turn lane can kee flowing if the oncoming lanes are clear.

ABS can only do so much. When you input harsh steering and heavy braking things don’t go well

you act like ABS is a magic thing that stops idiots from making incorrect driving inputs

@@t3hgir His rear right tire locked up under braking. ABS does not allow that. Also, ABS and ESP are pretty much magic for preventing a spin, and in this car, they were clearly not operational.

The car is driving straight, wheels straight, the driver hits the brakes and it immediately yaws to the left even though the driver is counter steering, as if his front left tire had blown. That kind of stuff does not happen in sunny conditions unless there's mechanical failure.
