Exactly so. You can see the truck coming a mile away, you know he's going to want to merge onto the highway. Coast for a bit, let him in, everybody keeps going. "The zipper" is a lost art.

@@JaySliZe You don't know, but you can _assume_ a car on an onramp may want to enter the highway, so it's better to leave them the space (even if they don't take it) than put both of you in harm's way by accelerating into them to show you are a big manly man.

Not sure that was such a great move. The driver could have had a spine or neck injury. That's why paramedics often put on a stiff neck before getting people out of cars and then put them directly onto a special mattress that doesn't allow the patient to move. Opening the door and getting the seat belt off is certainly a good thing, just in case the car start to catch fire.

I have a tesla and I was thinking about that the other day - when I first bought I loved the speed and used to just take off on the entrance ram but now I almost always drive at the speed limit and just try to be a good driver for myself and others. I do worry when everyone has electric cars - how all that power and speed will be handled. a lane could be clear one second and an electric car can fly up there the next.

@@thejoshthatplaysdrums3293 I have had my Viofo now for 2 years, and even with weather extremes (very hot interior in summer; bitterly cold in the winter), the dash cam is still performing like a champ! Best $100 (USD) that I have ever spent!!

I have commented this before, commenting it now and will no doubt comment again… I try to watch these videos every few days to constantly remind me to be safer on the roads. I think these have helped me be MUCH more observant as a whole (and twice have avoided blatant red light runners by doing just a super quick scan left and right just after my light turns green). I think these videos are doing good for everyone.

For not crashing into someone in the right lane? If you noticed he did try to change but was unable to before his exit. Honking in that less then ideal situation because you have to wait a few seconds, encourages people to take risk. Not that stepping out of the car to give a lecture was the smartest move.

0:10 I winced when I saw that one. Not because of the crash but because of the way that the guy yelled out when he got hit. Usually when someone makes a sound like that then they are severely injured and usually something has cut or impaled them or they took a major blow to their waist and up. Either way, that sent shivers down my spine

these videos always remind me how important it is to drive defensively and always be alert with your head on a swivel, checking your mirrors and all your angles. notice how many accidents are avoided because the driver with the camera identified the other vehicle as a potential threat before they even did anything

@@juli.g00 I mean, who would expects a car to come flying out of the median at full speed, going the wrong way nonetheless. I might not be swearing, but it is definitely a pants-crapping moment, very scary too. Granted we sometimes see cops or state troopers in the median, but most of those guys are speed traps, and even still, we see most of those unless they are hiding in trees or bushes in the median. And when they do come out, they don’t fly at like 60+ mph unless they are in a high speed chase or something.

I find it very disturbing that so many drivers can be so reckless and clueless about how they drive. Most of the time we think the road are safe, other than the occasional not signaling to turn or merge. People need to learn how to drive better, and when you do slip up and cause an accident, don’t run away. It hurts everyone involved, not just the victims. People can be bad at driving. I am lucky that I rarely see crap that happens in these types of videos As Gordon, James, and Henry would describe these drivers in this video: Disgraceful Disgusting Despicable

8:09 This amazes me about the way cars are built these days. Rear end collision at 10 MPH and the car is totaled? I can just imagine how the insurance company determined this. Scratched bumper - better replace the whole rear end. $8,000. Car is 2 years old, it's "worth" $5,000. Write off. Now we can sell it for parts for 10 times what we paid for it.

Basically the reason is that bumpers are just decoration and the impact warps the cars entire frame. If it warps asymmetrically it can lead to a lot of unwanted behavior, like veering to one side, especially when braking hard, which is obviously unsafe. Actually fixing that is HARD because it affects most portions of the car. Also, crumple zones. Do you want your car totaled or your body?

Agreed, the use of unibody construction is partly to blame, it's designed to easily crumple up. The use of many weld spots also makes it too expensive to detach damaged parts; it's too easy to push repair costs beyond the worth of the vehicle. Also partly to blame are the high prices set on replacement parts. Philadelphia has long had issues with "chop shops", which disassemble stolen cars and fence the parts.

Don't forget totalling a car just means it would cost more to repair than to replace it. If this car had other issues - rust or corrosion, for example - that would push the nominal market value down. Still sucks badly to have it happen, and to have to try to buy a replacement (especially these days) rather than wait a week or three.

@@builder396 The insurance companies agree... they are paying far more for car repairs and replacements, but they are paying far less than they used to for injuries. Your car can be replaced, you can't.

It was both but I’d say more so the other guy. Camper probably could have moved more to the right quicker after going around the parked cars but that guy was flying down the street and more importantly didn’t yield as he approached second and clearly had parked traffic on his side. Both had parked cars but cammer was there first and was already going around the cars, truck approached second and had parked cars are his side too.

you normally have to look at the parked cars. the cammer was allready passing cars before the truck started passing cars on his side of the road so the truck should have stopped to let oncomming traffic pass before the road is clear. i disagree about the truck 'flying by' it looked they both had the same speed and the truck was quite close to the parked cars on his side, i don't know if the cammer could have avoided the accident by moving more to his side of the road since there were also parked cars there. i think all in all the insurance would rule the truck at fault instead of the cammer because he didn't stop when he had the chance to

4:22 I’ve gotten lost in a construction zone before, they had cones everywhere except covering the exit that was supposed to be blocked off bc they were working on it. No signs saying exit was closed or anything like they had before for working on the same exit, anyone could’ve made the same mistake honestly but it made me upset they didn’t have anything saying it was closed

7:50 - signal obviously doesn’t mean that it’s clear to move over, HOWEVER, how DIFFICULT would it have been to move left one lane(where there was no traffic) or to slow down a bit?!? You were getting off at that exit anyways! The fact that you are showing 0 mph means that you were speeding.

7:45 It's raining and you see a pickup signaling to merge. Then you don't slow down? It's totally avoidable and pickups have notorious blind spots so the cammer is to blame.

The truck on the on ramp started to merge over a solid white line. Merging is not even available yet and that truck had plenty of lane left to find a comfortable spot to merge. We see that on ramp/merge lane for 15+ seconds and still plenty of distance left on that lane when the clip ended. It's up to the merging traffic to find a safe place to switch lanes. Now the cammer wanted in the exit only lane so he didn't want to go a a left lane and potentially block himself out from exiting. Before he accelerated he was already going faster than the truck on the ramp so he probably was trying to clear the way for the truck to merge behind him. You can't expect a vehicle already on the highway to slow down for you to merge when your in a merging lane. Even if you think the accelerating was the wrong call and think he should used his brakes instead to clear the way, the truck merging was 100% in the wrong because he merged too early.

Agreed. That truck had space before, and had to merge quickly to bad road design. The OP also knew he was merging and knowingly blocked his way. Had someone do it to me last week and I was PISSED.

So many of the drivers behind the cameras are aggressive, rude, and would be ticketed if not had their license revoked in some countries. Merging, lane changes, etc .... So many of these guys SEE the other vehicle preparing to merge over, then accelerate to prevent them from doing so, causing (or nearly causing) accidents because they're too aggressive to allow another vehicle into their lane.

@2:45, two idiots. The cammer was a left lane camper going slow when he should have been in the right lane. And the MB driver who was trying a close pass only to hit the cammer. Glad no one was hurt. Hard to feel sorry for the cammer camping in the left lane going slower than other cars.

MAYBE I could half understand doing that on a street, but the second you realize you’re going the wrong way and doing it at 70 MILES AN HOUR, you’re like “nah figure it out fam”? Sometimes I’m glad I don’t have a car at the moment. Yeah dude totaled it but at least I get a break from this utter ineptitude.

He was unable to change lane, it's not ideal but perfectly reasonable to stop and wait for lane to be clear before pulling. Getting out of the car not so much...also no audio...really?

BUT I've also heard "Pinked it" when someone hits the intersection just as the light changes from Yellow, too... (usually pedal on the floor)... People are stupid... ;o)

Apart from stepping out of the car, it's not a violation to try to exit from the middle lane. Meaning he had good justification to stop in the middle lane and await an opening since he didn't have room to change lane before the exit.
