There was probably room behind the truck to make a safe change, but people hate being behind semis so they do dumb sht to avoid it. At the same time, a zipper merge is there for smooth traffic transitions and you're supposed to ride it until the end, and there's supposed to be adequate space left between cars to allow it to do it's thing, but people suck and think if you're riding it to the end you just want to skip traffic.

They were attempting to make a safe lane change/merge. The trucker purposefully tried to block them and closed the gap. Maybe when someone is ahead of you preparing to merge in, you leave them alone instead of playing games.

Trucker was describing what happened LATER, not at that exact moment. he said the pickup pulling the trailer went around the vehicle on the left and came back to the right-most lane to brake-check him. That must have happened well after video ended so speed in video is not pertinent.

The white Ford shouldn't have left an opening big enough for something to think they can get through. Because people will try to sneak through and then stuff like this happens. The Ford isn't at fault for this, but they could've prevented it.

I went and looked at Google Street view of that location. How bad visibility was becomes quite apparent when you see what all is hidden by the weather! Plus you left out the fact you had just come around a curve in the freeway as the clip begins. In good conditions, you would have barely become visible to the plow at the moment the clip begins. That turn around spot is a really bad location for a plow to turn around. He should have used the exit he had just passed or continued to the next exit a mile further down the freeway.

I don't think he was really driving too fast if he had the proper setup for it (snow tires, I don't see why someone would chain for that little of snow before ice). Actually, the video itself is proof they weren't (cammer and suv seem to have been going around the same speed) given that they were able to avoid any kind of collision. I will say that normally I would put more blame on the plow, but given it's after a curve, it makes more sense. Lastly, the SUV took a while to start reacting to the whole thing seemed like

I'm a truck driver myself, and I only allow one in front of me. He definitely didn’t have insurance. He did a hit and run. They didn’t let the entire video play but the driver got out and fled on foot. But our insurance covered it so it’s cool. We didn’t get a rental we just were out of commission the entire time.

Riding the bumper of the car in front? No. It has been proving that doing a proper zipper merge, and utilizing the ending lane right up to the end, is far more efficient for the flow of traffic.

@@scubaad64If the offending car was interested in safety and attempting to zipper merge he would have done it WAY before getting to the big rig and trying to cut as far up the line of cars as possible. The car driver is simply another impatient prick with a "me first" attitude.

@B416 Actually, if you look at time stamp 7:35, he's already ahead of the semi, before the lane ends (cones are still right at the left line, and not coming into the lane ending). True he could have stopped and waited until the semi truck passed, but like wise, the semi driver didn't have to be a complete knob and box him out like that. Again, the car was ahead of the semi and the cones were still on the outside line. the lane hadn't actually ended yet. And the way the semi rode the bumper of the car in front is inexcusable. If I'd been the driver of the car in front of the semi, I'd be beyond pissed.

@@scubaad64 Make all the excuses you want. The truck was in position in the lane and the car driver made a dangerous choice to try to wedge himself in front. Right of way still applies and the driver attempting to merge must do so with due care and safety.

@@Greydawg The van driver certainly could have prevented it, by being aware that the yellow light about to change to red does not relieve him of the responsibility to make sure it is clear before he turns. Not sure what more you think the other driver could do. He entered the intersection legally, there is no indication he was speeding, at least not excessively. I suppose you could say he could have slammed on the brakes on yellow, but that is hazardous too, as often drivers behind you nowadays will expect you to proceed on yellow, and might rear-end you if you stop short. Once the van committed to the turn, there was nowhere near enough time or room for the other driver to avoid the collision.
