Some of the only reasons why the traffic would stop instantly is if a truck fell from above, a truck crossed onto the wrong side of the highway and flipped over, or a bridge collapsed onto the highway. In most cases, traffic takes time to stop, and so anyone crashing into stopped traffic is liable for all the damages that happen next.

Initiating a left turn on red is not legal but completing a left turn on red is absolutely legal. You are supposed to enter the intersection to wait for your opportunity to turn left, so as long as you enter the intersection before the light turns red you can complete your turn legally while it is red as long as the way is clear from legally operating oncoming traffic. In this case, the trucker illegally entered the intersection 2 seconds after the light turned red - at the same time the cammer was waiting for their opportunity to complete their turn, and they reasonably turned after the light turned red and they thought oncoming traffic was stopping. Cammer is right and trucker would have been at fault here if there was an accident.

@libertylost82862 ай бұрын
How does the cammer know if the car had already let others merge. It looked like, to me, that he just pulled up to the line of cars. That’s what gets me when people complain about others being courteous, they could have already let other people merge and they are not being discourteous by keeping others from merging.
@RazorFomx2 ай бұрын
Laws are pretty cut and dry here, right lane was ending and needed to merge to the left lane thus are required to yield to vehicles who are already occupying said lane. Yield of course as everyone knows, means to essentially go by the other's actions. The car in the left was clearly not allowing the merge, so the vehicle in the right is required to merge behind them. Car on the right is 100% at fault. Courtesy isn't required by law, yielding is. This isn't a 50/50, this is a 100% at fault on the merger for failing to yield. So yes Sylve, you are correct in saying it's the merger's fault 100%!

I think the cammer was paying attention but wasn't expecting traffic to be slowed down so hard. You can actually hear the brakes in the video and with being fully compressed the cammer couldn't stop in time so they evaded with just a couple of feet to spare a wreck. Initially it looks like cammer had good amounts of space ahead of them to slow down for speeds from 70 mph to say 60 maybe 50 but the traffic was slower than that. The reason why the cop stopped cammer was because they probably felt he was speeding around the stopped traffic, while being the cause of the cammers aggresive-evasion to begin with. And all to get to civilians that were walking on the shoulder of the fast lane. However, the cammer couldn't explain it because they were to upset over how close they were to getting into a wreck. However, the speed on your camera says you were going 70 at the beginning of the clip and tops out at 74 just before beginning to slow down for the truck coming into your lane. Speed limit is 55 and you're in a construction zone. Google street view of that stretch of road has signs saying "trucks entering and exiting. State liability limited." There were clear warnings for exactly that scenario.
@dcsteve78692 ай бұрын
all true except the state still has a duty to enter and exit the highway safely. That was a stupid move on the truck drivers part when there was clearly traffic coming. Also "state liability limited" is a very arbitrary statement that in truth the state shouldn't even attempt to enforce. In this case the cammer's speed would be contributory should an accident result but in the majority other cases involving accidents with construction vehicles entering the highway such as this the courts side with the plaintiff.

Ooo, number 15 got me!!! My brother got off drugs and became a truck driver, and just about a year and a half ago started having these weird seizure type episodes and he had an accident like this and had to be life flighted out of there!!!! And the doctors STILL can't figure out what's wrong with him!!! He's got another appointment with a neuro next month, but this couple is trying to sue him and everyone around that accident, because they STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE TO LOOK AT WHAT WAS GOING ON AND GOT REAR ENDED!!!!!!! THEIR OWN DAMN FAULT, BUT WANTS TO SUE EVERYONE AROUND CLAIMING THAT IT'S EVERYONE ELSE'S FAULT THAT THEY WERE DISTRACTED AND STOPPED!!!!!

0:50 Dueling idiots... the cammer for turning left on what was a CLEAR red light and the semi for not stopping for the red light... I have rewatched this clip 5-6 times and I can, for the life of me, how the cammer wasn't T-boned by the semi!!! Good thing their car didnt have a longer rear end and that the semi slammed their brakes!!! Their lucky day!!!

3:18 There is no zipper merge law in Calgary. It was 100% the merging driver's resposibility to do so safely and legally.

0:45 A yellow light means "slow down and prepare to stop". Especially when one is approaching a stale yellow! (The light turns yellow at 0:45 and turns red at 0:49 when the truck is still 3 or 4 car lengths from the intersection).

I don't know the laws in all states, but several months ago I was coming from one 2 lane highway and had a right turn/curve to another 2 lane highway. From my direction I do have a Yield sign, but I usually take that fast so I can get back up to speed with little acceleration so I don't slow down other cars on the highway I'm merging to. There was a line of cars and I accelerated like I usually do and I was trying to merge behind a truck with another truck about 4 to 5 car lengths back. As I'm coming over, the truck floors it to block me and since I was already back to the speed limit, that lane ended quick and the truck swerved toward my car and I almost went off the road, but I fortunately had good brakes. As I get into town this truck tried brake checking me and when the 1 lane becomes 2, I get into the right lane to do the speed limit and as I'm passing them, they swerve toward my car again. I'm just trying to get to work, although I was pissed, I'm not a fool, but with that last maneuver, I rolled my window down a yelled for them to knock it off and leave me alone. They start cussing and yelling at me so I yelled at them about trying to run me off the road with the merge and they just keep saying I had a Yield and they were right. Well, I'm actually a Judge and known the laws, but just for extra clarification, I went to the sheriff's office and spoke to a deputy and showed him the dash cam video I had of it all, which he was impressed with. As I knew, yes I have a Yield, but another vehicle cannot speed up to block a merge and it's considered vehicular intimidation with the intent to cause an accident. Since my video showed the license plate, the deputy said he recognized the vehicle and had me send him the video because it was proof enough for a hefty citation (it wasn't arrestable since the deputy didn't witness it first hand). I got a call that afternoon and he pulled the guy over to give him the citation since he had the video and the guy started yelled at him and threatening him, so he got to go to jail. The deputy then found he was driving with a suspended license and had several warrants so he's going back to prison for a long time, all because he didn't want to let me merge. He would have been caught eventually, but since he was driving a company truck that he worked for, it might have taken a while. Karma cop and dash cam for the win.

3:26 The red Jetta is definitely a dick. But the other car needs to read the signs along the interstate that says "Slower Traffic Keep Right" and "Keep Right Except to Pass". Camping in the left lane even at 15 over when there are people behind that want to pass is also a dick move.

25. That's what the trucks turning sign means on a lot of construction. Construction zones should be high-alertness zones. Yeah, he pulled out without warning. Construction equipment does that when there's no dedicated flagperson around.

I disagree that a driver trying merge in the zipper merge had no choice but to hit the car that wouldn't let him in. He could come to a complete stop as soon as they realize they aren't going to be let in and they are running out of lane. Keep the blinker on but remain stopped until the traffic clears or someone let's them in. Not ideal but an alternate choice from hitting someone.
