Proper movement and mobility training should assist MMA training. The greatest benefit of proper movement/mobility training comes in the long term because you will be able to avoid a great deal of injuries and chronic problems when the body is structurally balanced and mobile. Great video as always Coach Zahabi.

Why risk the chances of injury? You don't see many if any gymnast past 30. Gymnastics and that Ido Portal Movement stuff relies so much on skill. Why would a fighter/martial artist waste time training that stuff when he can focus on his martial arts training and add general mobility and corrective exercises that wont cause injury?

Good point about gymnastics but I would say a major difference is that most of the movements are done symmetrically and in a straight line, pretty much the opposite of fighting. Tricking, freerunning or breakdancing may be better for fighters in some ways, but it's hard to compete with the raw strength moving through different body shapes that gymnastics builds.

Zahabi is a legend but I so wish these videos were available in a podcast format, this particular series is much more audio friendly! On the movement note, I do think that movement training is useful at any stage of your training or life for that matter. Not just choreographed/synched martial arts movement but natural mobility. It can prevent years of mistakes and poor proprioception, environment awareness as well as give you in-depth understanding of your movement pathways and impact/force/balance.

Right on Firas, I think Ido would say the same thing about his own work with Connor specifically. His whole thing is specialization vs generalist training. He's a life long martial artist too which helps. So he knows... if you're an MMA fighter or some other specialist athlete, that should be your focus but he can supplement you by helping to develop other skills or attributes.

I love how he explains things and I love the phylosophy of only going to 70 80 % in your training every day. I have been experimenting with that and altough I could not train much, the results are amazing compared to before when I was training once in a while and basically literally braking my self so I was not able to do shit for a week or two afterwards. Respect & thanks for the videos. And, yeah, I am here because of JREs podcast with Coach Zahabi... Peace.

I like to think of mobility training as a way to become proficient in the building blocks of human movement. It is a fundamental approach, where martial arts consist of sets of complex movements that are means to an end. I'm a musician and I believe the parallel you drew with music is a good one on very many levels. 'Movement training' in that context would be technical practice, like scales, which is not music per se but contains most of the archetypal shapes you'll find later on in actual pieces. Cheers and thanks for the great material!

Crawling, and just that so far has almost transformed my life..Ok to scale it back it has improved my mobility, strength and physique. It took no skill, it came naturally; most of us crawled for almost a year as an infant anyway. I added variations as I went and needed no instruction. For personal application, I can see the benefit for a striker to crawl and for a wrestler to shadow box.

Movement training is great. But last year people were blowing it up to be THE THING that made Conor the excellent fighter he is. Movement training is the salt to your recipe of maximizing performance. It will enhance the flavor of your meat and potatoes (technique drilling, sparring), but too much or too little can ruin the whole recipe.

hey coach, would the tim-tam be good for normal people who are simply sore from everyday life? Also, I am soon 25 years old and I want to start training mma. (Evolution centre/Tristar gym in Gatineau) The thing is, I have a very clear picture of what kind of fighter I would like to become. Do you think my (futur) coaches should guide me and help me grow, giving me advices.. but letting me choose my on path for the better or worse. Or should coaches decide pretty much everything for me? For example I am a righty, but I always have used the Southpaw stance, but coaches won't allow it!? I'm not too clear here but hopefully you get my question..

I believe basic Ido portal will help beginners in martial arts, unless those beginners are young age. People that just start working out or just start martial arts are stiff as fuck, they lack body awareness, the feel of when they are off balance. Even feeling of being more weighted on back or front feet. Yes you can teach a prober stance and not lean too much foward when punching. And after months or years they will get more aware of their balance. But I think if you have spare time to work extra, training like Ido portal, just basic balance and mobility, things that make u aware of every muscle and movement in your body. I think only after a month of the basics, you will improve things that would take a year otherwise. Ido portal is not an original thing, the concept has been there for years. And I believe, the basic of what that concept teaches will benefit a great deal. But not advanced things like one handed handstance

@FearlessP4P1
@FearlessP4P1 7 жыл бұрын
Someone else being able to attack your wife with pepper spray shouldn't make it illegal. Because if someone really wanted to use it like you said they can if they really wanted too while your wife a law abiding citizen can't. It really neuters people trying to defend themselves against criminals. The best you can do is take her to BJJ classes.
