My favorite part of Gabon was the fact that Sugar was sent to exile island from the get-go and kept being sent there because no one wanted to deal with her. But she was the only one to experience exile, so while the others thought she was roughing it, she had a nice lil setup with a hammock and fresh fruit and a shelter that was literally a legitimate hut, and she just kind of had a vacation and then every few days would be plopped back into the game and ppl would try to use her as a number but she didn’t really know what was actually going on so she basically just picked as if by coin flip and voted that way, only to be sent back to her nice little personal resort. The rest of them were already such a mess without her, she became my favorite of the season and has remained a favorite of mine to this day.

Gabon is the closest we'll ever get to a real life version of the Total DRama Cartoon and I love it

Watching Sugar play Survivor despite not knowing anything about the show, the game, or caring whether she won, is one of the most bizarrely fascinating marvels of modern television. Sugar 100% played the game as a chaotic neutral and when you go in knowing what to expect, it's actually a hilarious season

Never forget: Sugar indirectly predicted the Final 3 of Gabon in the pre-game interviews, before she even knew the other players’ names.

If you want proof of how weird Casaya was, it gave Aras the reputation as the normal one, and he tried to light a fire by having everyone hold their hands in a pile

Survivor Gabon was basically the classic case of the bunny rabbit eating its dinner in the mailbox.

"It's like watching a toddler playing chess, but somehow they keep getting check-mate." This is genuinely the most accurate analogy I've ever heard to describe Sugar, or Gabon in general. 😂

Gabon was one of the best seasons ever. It gave viewers the opportunity to see our chaos-gremlin selves represented on tv. Most seasons just have one or two beautiful space cadets. Gabon gave us an entire spectrum of Lil Morrises and it was magical. I want less “Wow, that guy is smart and hot and good at challenges plus he randomly knows how to cut bamboo and do spear fishing” and more “oh no, I don’t think that lady’s gonna make it up that hill.”

A detail about Casaya that I love: They picked that tribe themselves! Highlights include Boston-native Danielle picking "the cool guy with the Boston tattoo" Shane (Shane's from Nebraska; the tattoo is his son's name), and Shane being the one to pick Courtney.

Gabon might be one of my all time favorite seasons of any reality show ever. Every moment was needlessly petty with an undertone of Jeff just loosing his mind. At one point on Fong, I belive Matty and Ace form an alliance on the basis of "please god does someone have a plan." Only for that plan to be rely on Sugar's idol. Im praying for the day we get another trainwreck of a season like that again.

Gabon is hilarious for many reasons, but it's fun to watch Jeff slowly lose his mind when they do tribe picks and people (even women! can you imagine?) are chosen before his favorite "manly men" contestants. And then those guys get voted out! I think Jeff is at his most misogynistic this season. And how great is it that the last four men standing (if I remember correctly) are Bob (old), Kenny (nerdy), Randy (old) and Matty, who looks like a golden boy but also is just a little bit off (that smile and laugh!). No wonder Jeff hated this season so much. I get a kick out of Sugar.

The castaways on Gabon are simply iconic. They are such a hot mess, that it's funny.

Nicaragua is one of my favourite seasons - I can't think of another season where it seems like everyone was consistently making terrible choices, sometimes players who are good at survivor become a little predictable and you certainly can't accuse the players on Nicaragua of that. Also as much as NaOnka was obsessed with Kelly's leg, a lot of the other cast aways sort of treated Kelly as someone who needed special treatment which was not good either, it often bordered on patronizing and other people did mention it as a reason they wouldn't want to sit with Kelly at the Final Tribal Council

Gabon is definitely "messy and chaotic" but I think it gets a bad rap. It's messy, but it's also exciting and unpredictable. It has a lot of great characters and Ken in particular is really fun to watch. Fang is certainly not the worst tribe in Survivor history, throwing the idol into the ocean is not as stupid a move as people make it out to be considering the context of the situation, and Sugar is not completely unaware of what's going on around her at all times. Jeff's opinions on the seasons have to be taken with a heaping pile of salt, since his opinions are influenced by things like production woes and how bad the bugs were. Just because he wanted to quit at the time Gabon was happening doesn't mean Gabon made him want to quit and is therefore the worst season ever. I will say, it is one of the worst FTCs I've ever seen, but the rest of the season is really enjoyable.

The thumbnail reminds me of my idea of a returnee season where it is all first boots called Survivor: First Blood. Which would probably be as chaotic as Gabon.

I’m getting out of an abusive relationship and you have no idea how many times things he did to me reminded me of things I saw on “World’s Apart.” That’s how bad it is. Agree with essentially everything about maybe Gabon - the more I watch it, the more I think of Sugar’s game as masterful up until final tribal. But actually we agree pretty much that Sugar ran the game so I enjoyed your analysis! But I don’t think she was like a toddler and I think Susie is underrated. I’d probably put Caramoan up here lol. Otherwise really agree with you and had a lot of good laughs.

IMO Gabon feels like what it would look like if The Koopalings From The Super Mario Bros Series were on Survivor. They are great characters and several KZfaqrs make them funny and chaotic but their Boss fights are really easy and not the best bosses. Just like how these players have massive holes in their game. And I love it!

Survivor Cagayan is probably my favorite season of survivor, if not the favorite then in the top 5 for sure! The chaos and drama were just so great, and there was so many funny moments and just ludicrous gameplay. I also adored Winners at War for many reasons, but the main one was seeing Tony at work again. He is my favorite Survivor winner of all time, along with Yul!

Gabon and Nicaragua are two of my favorite seasons. Na'Onka had me rolling every time she opened her mouth. Can you imagine if she won??? But then, the edit is completely different and I fear many of her hilarious confessionals aren't in. Gabon was a hot mess in the best way. Survivor doesn't have another season quite like these two. I didn’t know Gabon was called the season of first boots but it makes perfect sense, given how Heroes vs Villains went. That cast could only have worked with each other lol

Funnily enough, Gabon is the only season on this list I haven't seen. I love Nicaragua for how slowly, but obviously Jeff has a mental breakdown throughout the season. From La Fleur's antics entering for challenges, to having to ask if "New York is full of gay people", to the peeing in the pool debate, to the double quit, to impersonating his own mother, and finally, whatever ALLEGEDLY happened with Sash and Jane. It's a fascinating look at a man's psyche.
