revisions and apologies: said accord not ballade at one point - sorry!
In today's video, I am out testing the 80s Triumph Acclaim, which was the result of a partnership between Honda and British Leyland - on which talks had begun all the way back in 1978.
The Triumph Acclaim was essentially a bit of a jazzed up Honda Ballade, although 80% of the parts were British sourced and the car was made at Cowley. Engines were made by Honda in Japan and it was the same 1.3 engine as had been used in the Honda Accord.
The Honda Ballade was never marketed officially in the UK so as not to harm the Acclaim and the Acclaim was made from 1981 to 1984 and just over 130,000 were made in the production life span.
The Acclaim was the last car to ever be badged as a Triumph and was also one of the best selling cars of the 80s - sitting in top 10 best selling UK 80s cars in both 1982 and 1983.
The car was replaced with the Rover 200, another BL/ARMG tie in with Honda, in 1984.
Today, it is one of the rarest British Leyland cars and one of the rarest Triumphs.
