The inspiration from Sonic OVA is evident in the comic, though I couldn't help but hear it in your dubbing as well. Intentional or not, it reminds me of Burke's Sonic voice with the earlier Mecha mixed in.

It's amazing how Sonic gained an empathic ability to Mecha. It reminded me of what happened in Sonic X, when somehow a chip made Sonic automatically run without stopping.

I wonder if Scrapnik Island was inspired by Scrap Valley from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog? The main idea is the same: A bunch of old Eggman robots left somewhere remote and turned good. It would be cool if IDW comics brought back some AoStH characters like Archie comics did. The history of Sonic includes many characters with colorful personalities and living in situations which could give birth to many intriguing stories so it would be a shame if those characters were forgotten. (Or should I say, scrapped.) And another thing: The lesson told by this miniseries is relatable and timely: "The value of one's existence isn't determined by successes and failures. Both are fleeting and impermanent. What truly matters is having the courage to keep moving forward." And that message was demonstrated in a creative and thrilling way. These stories are so good that SEGA should base Sonic games on Sonic comics.

So, one thing I'm surprised about... apparently the Death Egg's Foundries are still functional, as we saw in the battle scene. So the scrapniks have access to parts manufacturing facilities. So why only conduct repairs with scrap? Does Sigma not have access to the Death Egg's manufacturing facilities?
