The IEC has lodged an appeal with the Constitutional Court over the electoral court's ruling which allows former president Jacob Zuma to contest the 29 May elections. Earlier this week, the electoral court set aside the commission's decision to disqualify Zuma from taking part in the upcoming polls.

The judges at the Electoral Court simply didn't want to take any responsibility for a firm decision in this matter. What they did was to simply kick the tin down the road hence handed the Concourt the hot potato. From where I'm sitting this is simply a hollow victory for Zuma. Somebody will end up with a bloody nose and it's not going to be the IEC!

@walter zikalala The last time we pre-ampted that advocate, Mpofu was gonna beat advocate Ngcaitobi, and that happened... However, this time around, I would be on the opposite. That is to say, the electoral court pushed the matter without giving meritocracy resolution, simply put they did not sufficient explanation for their reversal ruling. Instead, they literally passed the buck to the next court. So I don't think there's nothing wrong with IEC seeking clarity and interpretation, and only the court for constitutional interpretation is the concourt.

But why is Nhlamulo so worried about the appeal, what's so wrong in seeking clarity - the IEC enjoys the right to approach the Concourt for reasons within which the law makes provision. There's only one outcome from this exercise, either they will win or lose. Let the process flow.

May be IEC was not good from the beginning its just that we did not see that bcos we were the rulling party,now that we moved out from its favourite rulling party it showing its true colours.this is nonsense.

It seems that our Constitution is full of holes and has caused its own destruction. How can you say, "South Africa belong to all who live in it " when the majority of us don't own even a small piece of the land. Secondly, how many foreigners own farms, buildings and large tracts of land and we live in shacks on a stamp of land that is not ours. There is a whole list of 'new' laws that was created for Mr Zuma. He did not create it. For example. How did a contempt of Court matter land up at the Concourt? Did Mr Zuma demand to go there? No, He was summons. All these 'new' Zuma laws are going to be a problem in the future and that is not Mr Zuma's fault.
