Good writing, and a high score on the IELTS and TOEFL exams’ writing section, requires sentence variety. In this lesson, we look at the four sentence types as one tool to vary your sentences, and we also look at other elements of the language, such as modifiers, different phrases, linking words, etc. to make each sentence type more elaborate. Get the tools to make your writing more engaging and sophisticated.

Thanks a lot! I would like to ask you a question about using inversion or the first conditional sentences. For example: 1.Not only did the team learn about modern husbandary, but also participated in seminars on the business of zoo and theme park operations and logistic. 2.If the management team is sent to San Diego'sfamed fascilities for specialized training, it will upgrade the zoo's operational structure and ensure the best possible care for both its animals and their handlers. In your view, can using these structures improve the exam score?

How many complex sentences do we need for a 7.0 in task 1 Academic guys? The criteria said "a wide variety of complex structures", so I think immediately of having 2-3 complex sentences. I don't think it is possible to write a compound-complex in task 1due to how much information that sentence structure "eat up" in just 1 sentence.

Hello. Adam. I think you are one of the best teachers I have ever met! Thanks a lot for your teaching. I am an English teacher in Korea. But I have to study a lot since it is not my own language. I have been learning a lot of things from you. I appreciate it! Will you do me a favor ? In Korea, we have a big test like SAT test but.. I believe many of articles in the English test are too difficult for Korean high school students and some of them are totally wrong. Can you look over the paper, choose one of the English sentences, and explain what is wrong and right? I believe some of them in the papaer do not make even sense at all because they are not even translated into Korean. Will you help me?
