This actually happened to me! I happened to spent more time (30 minutes) on task 1 and got stressed with task 2 and couldn't write properly and was halfway through second paragraph when I saw I had 4 minutes left so I quickly wrote a conclusion and corrected all the misspellings and received a 7 band in writing! First of all, congratulations How can I get listening like this? My current level is frustrating. Because sometimes is 26 and 29 also 31 Even 32 But once happen 35. But I am interested speed of listening. Because I am listening only from Cambridge But there is no fast speed. Unfortunately after 1 week I have exam Is it be same speed?

I had my IELTS GT test and somewhat caught up in the said situation where ran out of time and managed by giving short 2nd para, following by the 2- sentences conclusion before finishing task 1 in 10 minutes. Similarly for the task 1, writing 147 words while summarising the task response. Fingers crossed and more hopeful after watching this video stating sort of similar point.

hello liz ı really like your tips. ı have a question and ı hope you can answer in 5 days because ı am taking ielts after 5 days :) do we need coclusion for writing task 1 and also if we write long like 200+ in task 1 do we loose any points? or in task 2 if we write 300+ do we loose points? are we given only one sheet of writing paper? ı am sorry i asked so many questions.

The examiner is looking for an overview in task 1 and a conclusion in task 2. The overview is the most important paragraph in writing task 1. See this page for model answers for writing task 1: ieltsliz.com/ielts-writing-task-1-lessons-and-tips/. You need to focus on key features and learn to group information together so that your report doesn't get overloaded with small detail. In writing task 2, if your essay contains sentences that are too generic or vague, it will lower your score. You should aim to write about 280 words in task 2. That is sufficient for a high score. in the last GT IELTS test, I needed to score 7 in writing. I didn't write conclusion in essay. But I scored 6. How is that? This means my rest of the essay and letter were up to the mark and would have got 7 had I included conclusion? PLEASE PLEASE I badly need you to reply me.

Hi Liz! I have got a question about this video. So if there is no conclusion, it means that the essay will probably not have the 250 words required. The examiner will take this in consideration as well? Thank you.

Felipe Marks If there is no conclusion given, you will get a low mark because of that fact alone for Task Response. The word count is also taken into consideration and any essay under 250 words can receive a penalty. Liz

Hello Mam! Can we use a pencil to do writing tasks as modification would not be much of a problem using an eraser. This won't be possible with a pen where we have to write everything correctly in the first go itself.

Some of the teachers in my city says that now it's must to write 3 body paragraphs whereas some says we can even write 2 body paragraphs.

There is not rule in IELTS about that - no rule at all. Teachers like to give advice, but they forget to mention that it is advice and not a rule. If you have only one body paragraph, you will lose marks - this is a fact. If you have four body paragraphs, you will not be able to extend your ideas enough for a high scoring essay - this is also based on the marking criteria and average essay length. But having two or three body paragraphs is a choice. Both options are 100% fine. I like to teach both so that students can choose for themselves depending on their essay ideas.

I have a question : I am very worried about making spelling or grammatical mistakes when I 'm writing and then having to cross on the words and writing the new ones, this will make my paper such a mess and definitely I don't have the time to write it on a draft first. What is the solution?

The more you plan, the less errors you make. You plan all ideas and supporting points. Then write your essay sentence by sentence. You can delete and make corrections. But make sure it is easy to read. If it can't be read by the examiner, you will get a low score.

Hi Liz I was able to finish task 1 really well and task 2 I did most I didn’t finish my second body paragraph and I never wrote a conclusion is there any chance I could maybe a get a minimum band 6 or is it impossible?

It is still possible. For Task Response your score will be limited to band 5 because you have no conclusion, but for the other three marking criteria, there will be no limit. So, you could still score very well if you did well on all other marking criteria as well as on writing task 1. Good luck!!

Hi, that's right the conclusion is very important for task 2. However, there is no conclusion for task 1. In task 1, the examiner is looking for an overview instead. I will release a video about this question in the next two weeks.

No. Academic writing task 1 is a report based on factual information presented as a bar chart, line graph, map etc. The letter is for GT IELTS only.

Marking is not done that way. Your score is based on much more than just one single aspect of writing. Even for Task Response, the mark includes a number of factors.
