From someone with 2 big dogs (a Rottweiler and a Irish wolfhound) they're smart if food is involved and pretty easy to train (from my experiences) but 90% of the time there is nothing but circus music going on in that big head of theirs lol

The difference between big dogs and small dogs intelligence isn’t really intelligence, it’s drive. A lot of little dogs were bred as lapdogs or like terrier types that chase down prey, while bigger dogs were trained to work closely with their handlers (excluding dogs like huskies and similar types of work dogs). So bigger dogs tend to have a lot more drive to please you and thus learn a lot easier than some of our smaller breeds.

I have an Irish Setter who's entire existence revolves around pleasing me and hunting. I've also had a collie who was very smart and a Dalmation who was the dumbest, most untrainable dog I've ever met. I think you're right about big working dogs, esp hunting dogs. They really aim to please

One of our family dogs was a miniature Pinscher. She lived a good 17 years before passing recently. They are such great dogs. Very loyal with big personalities 😊

I rescued two dachshund mix last year. I have no problem saying they have Chihuahua in them too. Yet they both look like a typical Doxie with the thick legs and feet.
