I think the most underrated part of his talent is just how incredible of a composer he is. Don't let his immaculate technique and performance skills overshadow the fact that this man is taking other people's music and using it as a blueprint to then create new works of music that raise it to higher levels of technique composition and emotional depths than where it started. It's amazing.

I feel like Charles is similar to Paul Gilbert. His skills are...insane. His technique, his ability, and toolbox, how many genres he plays. Bananas, right? But people forget he's a musical genius. He's not JUST an insane player. He has a mind boggling understanding of the language of music. And people forget, because God dammit when he goes ham, it's mesmerizing.

There was a dad who wanted his son to play an instrument. His son said, "I want to play bass!" "Great," said dad. The next day, dad went out and bought a bass, combo speaker/amp, and found an instructor, who he paid for ten lessons with. Excited, son goes off to his first lesson. A week later, the instructor calls dad. "Hey, is everything okay? Your son hasn't returned for any other lessons after we had his first." Dad answered, "Weird. He has been practicing. Let me go ask." He finds his son in his room going over scales. "Hey, son. Your instructor called. He said you only went to one lesson. I paid for ten. Was there a problem? I wanted you to learn an instrument." "But, dad! I got a gig!"

okay number 10 is easily the hardest here. I can't even say literally a few words if I'm even just holding whole notes. It could be my most rehearsed simplest bassline ever. I could be playing god damned smoke on the water but if I try and talk I either sound like it causes me physical pain to speak, or I somehow fuck up the EASIEST bassline in the world. props.
