Hi Kurt, I just wanted to give you a big thank you. I have been doing theater for 6 years and decided my New Year’s resolution was to make the transition to film, and your audition cheat sheet and videos on self tape really helped me out. I’ve already wrapped up a supporting role in a short film and I’ve already booked a second role in March!! Thank you so much for showing me that it’s not as difficult as you think it is if you do it the right way

This year marks 4 years that I’ve been a working actor, & man I wish I could’ve received this advice 4 years ago. I did a lot of those steps out of order & my career was at an extreme low last year because of it. That low ruined my confidence. I had a conversation with my manager & we both thought it would be great for me to start back over from ground 0. I’ve been taking an auditioning class for the past 2 months & I’ve learned a lot. I plan on taking a bunch of classes this year to sharpen my skills & add to my actor’s toolbox. Thank you for all the advice & insight. You are truly appreciated!

I've taken acting classes but were never serious about it. I would do my monologues and scenes in class but after class I never REALLY took the time to practice and put what I was learning in class into action. I'm taking this year to go back to 0 and start all over. Happy to come on youtube and find the exact video I needed to get back into this. It's time to focus!

For learning how to act, I can really only recommend this great 2-part video by John Windsor Cunningham, I watched it some 6 years ago and it helped me so immensely much, guiding what and how to practice. Because it's ultimately really mainly just about "passively" imagining a situation you're in (including what you're like as a character and such), which will naturally make you genuinely feel real emotions While you can only take acting classes once a week or so, you can practice that every day for as long as you like, you can imagine that sitting in a bus, or when going for a walk, etc, can be spontaneously for 5 minutes or for an hour or two at a time. I often, every few hours or so, just imagine some random stuff for a few minutes, which over the years really set a really solid foundation or my acting, which was at the same time also pretty fun, so win-win kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7J3q9KEmsCofGQ.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gsmdepdqkpPRdIE.html

I got a chance to be an extra in a TV show, Mayor of Kingstown. Now I'm obsessed, and I want to do more. But I don't know if I have what it takes to do a part with lines, so I'm doing some research. This is the first video I've watches so far. I don't think I can take acting classes just because I have bills and I can't miss work for something like that

Dear Mr. Kurt, I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible work you do, both as an actor and as a mentor on your KZfaq channel. I have been following your journey for years now, admiring not only your talent but also your generosity in sharing your experiences with others. Your dedication to supporting new actors and dreamers like myself is truly admirable and deeply appreciated. Many moons ago, I had the opportunity to ask you a question about your approach to delivering lines in a dialogue scene, and I was genuinely touched by your thoughtful response. It was a surreal experience for me, as it was the first time I had ever interacted with a celebrity, let alone someone as accomplished and generous as yourself. Your willingness to take the time to engage with your audience speaks volumes about your character and your commitment to paying it forward in an industry that can often feel daunting to newcomers like myself. As I continue to pursue my own dreams in the world of acting, I find inspiration in your journey and your words of wisdom. My sincerest wish for you is to see you land lead roles in many upcoming big TVs and movies, as your talent and passion deserve to be showcased on the grandest of stages. BREAK A LEG!

Thank you! This is such great insight & confirmation that I’m on the right track with your steps. It’s been two years for me & I will say that I’ve been focused on commercials at first because I thought it would be easier (not necessarily) And then I took scene work classes & I fell in love with tv/film. So I’m still in the developmental stages of my career but I do have a commercial agent, I’m part of different acting communities, I network, I take classes, i research, I scout the casting sites, I have mentors. And even though I wish I booked more jobs, I know that if I keep doing these things consistently, the results will show.

Your videos have helped me understand this field of work. On Background roles. Another side benefit can be the possibility of getting "bumped up" in category. On the day, a director might decide that they really like your look and ask you to be a bit more present in a shot.Giving you an added opportunity to learn something new and, hopefully, even get paid a bit more than scale.

Great video. I'm wanting to start acting but I've never done it before. Unfortunately I live in New Zealand so acting opportunities like being an extra and what not are slim. Also im still trying to figure out how to locate acting work to begin with in my area. I've booked myself in for a 3 day intensive course at a pretty high-profile studio that I've heard a lot of good things about in my city. While there, I'm going to inquire about what else they offer, like frequent classes or some advice to hopefully point me in the right direction with people, places, etc. The biggest drama university in my country is also in my city so that as well is an option for me. Other than that I'm pretty much just planning on going to places like talent agencies, not to get an agent but just in hopes to talk to someone about pointing me in the right direction to get started. Trying to figure out how to get started, finding acting opportunities, and figuring out how it all works seems to be the most difficult part at the moment. I'm really passionate about doing this, though, so I'm really hoping i can get the wheels moving soon

Hi Kurt, Thanks so much for always sharing your knowledge and wisdom that you have gained over the years from being in the industry. I have a couple questions that I am curious if you could give your opinion on: 1) How do you know if you want to be an actor, cinematographer, or director? I have a passion for all three but I feel stuck in the middle or even lost sometimes in which to pursue out the gate trying to make a name for myself or meet and build connections with others in those fields. 2) What is some advice you would give to those who live hundreds and sometimes even thousands of miles from any movie studios? Its extremely hard getting auditions or responses from casting since I live so far away. I've personally been turned down so many times purely because I was just too far away from the production even though I had the means to travel there. Again thank you so much for always sharing your experience and hope to hear from you soon!

Always excellent advice thank you! As AI becomes an issue and we look at building experience should we be concerned about agreeing to terms like this shown on Central Casting? ........"I authorize Central Casting to photograph, video tape, or use any other electronic method of recording my image, appearance, likeness, voice, or actions (collectively, “Recordings”) to be used at Central Casting's discretion in any medium, including, without limitation, company-related publications and web sites. I grant Central Casting the unrestricted right to make, copyright, use, re-use, or publish Recordings in which I may be included, in whole or in part, and waive any right to inspect or approve the finished medium incorporating any Recordings. I release and agree to hold harmless Central Casting from any liability for any legitimate use and publication of such Recordings and waive any personal or proprietary right I may have in connection with such use. I understand that all such Recordings, in whatever medium, will remain the property of Central Casting. I waive any right to compensation of any nature in connection with the Recordings" Thank you!

Hello Kurt first of all i wanted to thank you for helping so many people who are actors and want to be actors. I hope you can maybe help me or just give me an advice it would be really great. Im under 18 and i really want to act, my parents want me to focus on school and iam focused on school and i think it is really important. I think they would Support me but i dont live in a big market im living in germany and the closest to our city is Berlin but it is still over an hour away so there arent many acting classes in my area and we dont have time to drive there. I dont know if your going to read it but i hope you all have a great day and good luck with your careers! :)

It's not necessary to live in a big market when you are first starting out, especially now that there are so many acting classes available online. I spent the first eight years of my acting career in a small market. I lived six hours away from the biggest market in my region. Don't worry so much about location right now. You can definitely get started with online acting classes!
