I believe James Gunn is going to adapt the hopeful, optimistic essence of Superman, The 12 Labors Of Superman from All-Star Superman & Superman For All Seasons to show us what Superman thinks & sees of himself, what Lois thinks & sees of Superman, what the people around the world thinks & sees of Superman, & what Lex Luthor thinks & sees of Superman.

This is awesome as a standalone Superman movie. But if you're building a universe. I would have Kalibak be the first villain. Sent to earth to bring back Superman's head just so he can be accepted by his father, Darkseid. The movie can be about how Superman is accepted by all. And Kalibak is seen as a joke in his own world. Imagine the ending being. Kalibak is beating down Superman. Superman not wanting to kill Kalibak, which is why he's holding back. Seeing all the kids watching his fight. As Kalibak is saying "I AM NO JOKE! I WILL BE ACKNOWLEDGED!". Superman hugs Kalibak. With a heartfelt monologue saying he knows what it's like to feel like an outcast. But home is what you're willing to protect. Darkseid pulls Kalibak away thru the boomtube. So now you have Kalibak being a wildcard for future movies. Will he turn on his father? Has Superman gotten to him? This would be the planting of the seeds for the giant Justice League battle DC can build for the next 5-10 years.

i hate to say but, I don't think we need mutant villains on the first superman movie... just explore that darkness of human could be, human villains i don't want muscle fights on this story because, it will be boring to see destructions just like MoS again and again... you're right on the beginning scene, it will be more beautiful to see superman fights morals instead muscles, and win the fight without punches or lasers considering the next movie is The Authority, they would be the opposite of what Superman believe, opposite of the morals it's just like spectrum, the DCU would have Superman on the moral compass, and the Authority on the other side... just keep out the mutant/muscle villains for the next movie, because it would be boring to see superman trilogy with "big fight" in every singles... take a look at Nolan's recipe: Batman Begins - Ra's al ghul (challenging Batman's Ideology) TDK - Joker (challenging Batman's mind and emotions) Rise - Bane (challenging Batman's muscle, durability) The Batman 2022 - Riddler (challenging batman intelligence, detective, investigation skills) no doubt that The Batman 2 or 3 would challenge Bruce muscles
