Big Zona Alfa fan. Allows you to take the post-apocalyptic trope and do something other than zombies. Re-skinning Frostgrave certainly works for some people as they'll be able to pick up and play, but you definitely shouldn't have to make apologies for being honest that you were hoping for something better.

For people who don't necessarily need a pure faction warband as player force: Nordic Weasel has been doing those salvage-crew-in-space games for quite some time now. Main contender is Five Parsecs from Home (2nd ed.), a solo campaign game where you send out your Firefly crew on missions the random tables give you. Simplistic combat, the meat is with the campaign. Randomised character generation (that's why no factions for PCs - the factions come into play as enemy forces) and gradual upgrades to your people. Other options: Starport Scum - more freeform, with even more of an Rpg background, and Renegade Scout - a re-tooled Rogue Trader with modern mechanics.

I have genuinely played Stargrave on multiple occasions, and although I enjoy it, your criticisms are very much valid.

This was a good follow up video. I haven't looked into any of the rules sets that you had in your pile, so looking forward to hearing more about those.

Buck Rogers had the best sexy evil space princess since Flash Gordon. A very 70s show, but a helluva lotta fun. I'd buy a game like that. Void Pirates is pretty close to it.

I think you were a little hard on Star Breach. The ranged weapon and close combat mechanics do center around initiative but the modifiers are simple and logical. The game moves quickly and we play at a third higher points than recommended. It is easy enough for me to teach 12 and 13 year-olds, which is a big plus. It falls short in the world building, certainly, but we are an imaginative bunch and it is hard to beat a living rulebook...free of charge. The state of world and the cost of shipping are going to make heavy hardback rulebooks obsolete. I haven't even broken out my tyrannids or my Ultramarines yet...and I was able to cobble together a half dozen warbands for six different factions from a kickstarter I got a while back. Thorough review...I look forward to watching the other ones in this series.

I tried rogue stars but found the fatigue system got old very quick. I never got frostgrave so stargrave is ok with me . yes its a reskin but that dont matter if youve not had frostgrave right?

I don't know if I'll be buying stargrave. I dont think I will actually. BUT I REALLY want some of these stargrave miniatures if they're anything like the frostgrave sets I think they will be worth getting.

Frostgrave is a mele game, stargrave is a shooting game with 2 different loot
