RLZDA1 I do think there's a lot of different factors in play. So another thing was my mom's view on family. My grandma lives with them, I lived with them for a long while (in her background women stayed until married off but she didn't necessarily do that just through college). So a lot white Americans that she worked with gave her crap that way. Basically my mom's cultural differences was enough to make her too different. But like my brother is white passing because he looks white, adopted a lot of American customs (though he still has retained done traditions), speaks Spanish fluently but English as well with a West coast accent. I'd say he has white privilege until they learn his last name. I do think that with Latin culture there's so many dynamics that has everyone on a "spectrum" of sorts in terms of how much privilege they have. I do think that sometimes those nuances aren't spoken about more.

its actually our( the consumers) fault..if we really cared about white washing we would hit hollywood where it hurts..their pockets. We wouldnt support the movies that blatenly cased a white actor over one of color and has them putting on a skin for the role. If we boycotted the movies they relased which did this and they lost a significant chunk of money they would be forced to at least acknowldge the issue. Back in the golden age of film there werent many ethicly diverse actors thats why white people played other races..now there is a whole cast of diverse actors waiting for their chance. My opinion is If the characters nationality/race/ ethicity is an integeral part of the character it should be played by a person of that group..if it isnt then it shouldnt matter who its played by. Honeslty I think it would benift Hollywood to expand their casting listand allow more actors to shine because its really boring to see the same actos in so many movies.

The point of this video was that white actors have been able to play different races since the beginning of cinema, while actors of colour are regimented to a few different stereotypical roles within their own ethnicity. This just points out how absurd whitewashing is, especially considering that it still happens.

the arguments are what are opening people minds to this kind of stuff. there are plenty of great actors of color, but a lot of time the people casting are looking for actors and actresses who will make them the most money, which will be white actors. and everyone knows why, I'm going to try to keep this comment more based on a subject other than internalized and not-so-internalized racial hierarchy to keep this from being an argument. so white actors = more money; actors of color = less money. these actors are also getting paid more than people of color, and white males more than white women. even after winning an oscar, and recognition. this isnt about "blaming white people for not catering to everything you want" its about a bias system, that started out bias, and will remain that way because now that cycle has also become about revenue.
