That's how dodge mechanics works in the anime, speed doesn't matter. If that was the case Ash's Dragonite would be fast enough to beat an opponent before their pokemon even starts moving.

Travel speed and fighting speed are two different things. An Olympic level sprinter can run faster than a martial artist, but that doesn't mean the martial artist is going to be slower in a fight, that's why it works

@@homerman76 You're telling me, a big ass Alligator that can't even learn a priority move unless it's breed on to 'em is going to be faster in a fight then a dragon that can learn stuff like Agility, Aerial Ace, Extremespeed, and a bunch of other stuff like that? Real talk tho, I get what you're saying, I was memeing on the fact that Dragonite, even in game, is faster and has access to more "speedy" moves then a Feraligatr, which is more of a bulky and offensive power house.

Actual dodging wasn't introduced until Legends Arceus, where your Pokémon can dodge roll by pressing Y, and even then, it didn't returned in Scarlet and Violet.

My Charizard in Pikachu, let's go, was an anime moment. He toughened out the Hydro pump, dodged Aqua Jet, and toughened out hydropump again. Won with a 1 hp Charizard against a Blastoise. (This was when you fight your rival at the end of the elite four)

It's not actually a dodge mechanic. The actual dodge mechanic wasn't introduced until Legends Arceus, where your Pokémon can dodge roll by pressing Y.

Honestly imagine if Pokémon added a dodge button in battles that work like detect where it’s 50/50 repeatedly, but has no PP drain. But still has protect and detect as Tms.

Legends Arceus already has this, except that it's a guaranteed 100% if you know how aim at the right direction properly, and that to dodge, you need to press Y, and when you dodge, you roll at the direction you're facing.

what if there was actually a dodging mechanic in the games. A move was about to hit your pokemon and you have to press a button to dodge it and time it just right. Depending on the accuracy some moves would be easier or harder to dodge. Maybee it's not the best idea but it could be interesting.

When you realize, they technically did introduce a way to dodge attacks that should have hit. It’s one of the effects of high love. I think it was introduced in X and Y.

I mean to be fair, the idea of going evasion tank because enemy Pokémon actually HAVE pp limits and most of the moves used by the elite four have absurdly low pp counts in the first place usually is what should of led to a logical idea of stalling out till they can’t use any more offensive moves. Which it’s one thing for them to struggle to death, but imagine they had a 20-40 use buff move like sword dance and they are out of pp for the offensive stuff, meaning you get 20-40 free turns to heal up, probably apply ether to your own mons or switch them out or even buff your mons up to sweep thru the enemy mons. Just a shame they put rather short time limits on competitive play that we never get to enjoy people doing the unbreakable wall strat to bleed enemies down then one punch constants.

This reminds me of an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh where Yugi had a monster that kept reviving onto the battlefield and Slifer the Skydragon kept attacking because of its Second Mouth ability. Yugi won by default because his opponent ran out of cards to draw.

And then in Legends Arceus, dodge rolling was introduced, allowing Pokémon to completely ignore opposing attacks altogether, including moves that ignored accuracy, and with enough practice, they'll even have a guaranteed 100% chance of successfully dodging the attack.
