I get that slavery is a metaphor for the workforce but a little known fact about slavery was that in some plantation (mostly early cotton plantations in the French Caribbean) they didn’t feed their slaves as the mortality rate was so high it was just cheaper to work the slaves to death because they wouldn’t last longer then a few weeks

In the navy, a buddy and I were having a fun debate about whether or not, as government property, we were technically slaves. I ultimately concluded, as we were bound as "property" by our contracts in which we signed over our civil liberties, but we were still getting paid, that therfore we must be indentured servants at worst 🤣🤣

I can not believe I actually have to write this, but the point of this video isn't that: since slavery shares some similarities to modern day school and the military, slavery isn't as bad as history has made it out to be. Or that students and veterans have it as bad or worse than slaves. But rather, insofar as school and the military share any similarities to slavery, maybe school and the military are a lot worse than they are made out to be. This isn't a slavery apologist video, this is a "school and the military are ****** up" video.

I was gonna attack this head on until I stopped and thought what kind of slavery are we talking about? If we’re going to the slaves of the early days of USA/trans-Atlantic slave trading then this point wouldn’t make sense and I would advise you to read the making of a slave by willie lynch. But if we’re talking about todays concept of slavery which has its older ideas still entwined but sugar coated into modern society then this comment is very valid. The concept of slavery has changed many times throughout human history that this concept has many layers to it. But this video is bitter sweet no matter what concept we’re talking about as all options have a direct/indirect form of slavery entwined in each of them

Me in the navy. Going through the straits. Superiors: nothing happens here. * Everyone doe eyed Some time later. "One week ago ship blah blah was aimed at by missile xx. They shot it down." *everyone puffed up chest pretending they are noble warriors. Me: ?? We are literally in the med. Between a bunch of middle east countries and a russian ship that followed us around for a while. Reaaally? People bought all that. I was stationed in virginia. Military deploys frequently. A deployment is "short term" (in reality its long as hell. Its only 4 months... 9 months later). And not about where you are stationed. You are talking about being stationed. Not deployment. Deployment is where you go on active duty mission tour around certain areas patrolling wherever you arebsupposed to be patrolling foe months on end with your entire crew. Imagine being on a tin can of 300 to 5000 people (depending on what ship you are on) for more than half a year with people who mostly loathe each other on water. Thats a navy deployment. Add in the popular people who get away with everything and it is just a a giant ball of stress plus being ordered around like a blow up doll to do everything but your actual job. Military life is actually not that different from prison life. Your only freedom is when you go home ans hide in your hovel.

Back in the day I thought saying that was so dumb. Yet I understand it now more than ever. You can choose to be enslaved or you can fight for your freedom. You can die a free man or live as a slave and that's what I now understand where he was getting at. Being so many people are choosing to be enslaved to the media, politics, mandates, etc. Its like why arent people fighting back against this tyranny. Then you understand. People are choosing to be mentally enslaved.

You could actually be a slave by choice. Back before slavery started, if you wanted to get into the 13 colonies you could choose to become an “indentured servant” which is basically where you choose a contract with farmer or whatever, for example 8 years, and you would work off a “debt” which is how much your master payed for your food, water, etc, and whenever you didn’t pay off your debt in that chunk of time, your contract would be renewed, until you payed off your debt. After that, you would get a free passage to the 13 colonies and your new life would begin!
@TheFrancescanater2 жыл бұрын
Not slavery, as they could choose to get into it, they got paid afterwards, and it was a predetermined amount of time. Plus their children weren’t born into it. Not slavery at all. Delete this comment

@@TheFrancescanater Lmao bro I said “by choice”. Read my comment three times before commenting some shit like that😂 Also, I said exactly what you said in this comment. And you’re wrong, whenever they didn’t work off the debt, they did have to continue working, but the indentured servant got to choose how much time. They could choose 4 years that time, or just 1. Anything to finish off the debt. Delete YOUR comment🤨 Oh, did I forget to mention, they didn’t get payed. Their pay was a large amount of food and water, which falls into the debt the servant has to work in that amount of time.

Wage slavery in northern factories was often not enough to survive on and horrible working conditions, certainly nothing when you got old. Older Black slaves were usually given food and a roof over their heads. Early worker movements were intended to include both factory workers and slaves in worker solidarity, but the Civil War messed that up.
@nurainiarsad73952 жыл бұрын
In the old days both losing a battle but not dying, as well as falling into debt, had a high likelihood of leading to slavery. Literal slavery, not metaphorical ‘jobs are like slavery’. So, actually not too bad of a comparison set.
