Why can't the NHL take local tax rates into account when calculating the salary cap? Their failure to do this is the reason why we have this nauseating conversation every year. The entire point of the salary cap was to create a level playing field, but right now, it is failing in that effort.

has nothing to do with tax rates. Canadian teams feel pressured to put together competitive teams year after year which leads to mediocrity. American teams in southern markets can suck for 5 years, rebuild through the draft and put together a juggernaut.

why is it nauseating? Canada rarely even makes it to the cup final. Canadian teams have made it to the finals only 5 times since the Oil were last there in 06....but I guess if you hate Canada, then its nauseating I guess.....as for excuses, there are none. Florida was never going to lose this cup EVER. Edmonton were playing lesser competitive teams than Cats did. Everyone can see that the Oilers are way in over their heads with FLA. This series hasn't even been close in any way. Cats sweep, Oil might get 1 more goal in the series. In the off season I can see Leon and Connor traded, its a tear down and start over.....but there is no excuses for not showing up for the Cup.

Florida scored 3 goals, not 1, and forechecked the Oilers to death in both games. They outhit the Oilers 65-35, they had 12 takeaways vs the Oilers 4 takeaways. That is a comprehensive win, not just BOB.

for canadian hockey fans bellyaching about "nO sTaTe inCoMe TaX" teams lol. the panthers had no state income tax when they didn't win a single p-off round for 25 years. since 1993 (when DAL moved from MIN to texas) there have been 8 NST teams making the SCF. 5 of which have won the stanley cup. teams in moderate-to-high tax climates like PIT, BOS, LAK, CHI all won stanley cup championships since 1990. the truth will piss you off initially, but will set you free eventually.

It already is nauseating. People seemingly forget that Edmonton beat a very good (in spite of injuries) Vancouver team, and a Dallas team that knocked out the last 2 cup winners. Obviously they did not fluke their way to the finals, especially considering goaltending has been a huge question mark for them. I think it's actually insulting to both finals teams to say such a thing because Florida is obviously a very good team, and it takes away from their successes too when it's said that Edmonton is a weak team. But of course, empty vessels make the most noise.

It's really simple. Vancouver and Dallas suffered too main key injuries to be able to beat the Oilers and now the Oilers are become too injured to possibly win 4 of the next 5 games. Kane is playing with a sports hernia, Nurse got banged up in game two and Draistal does not look like he's playing at 100%. With the Florida checkers being able to negate offensive players like Bouchard and Hyman, only McDavid is left to carry his team and not even the best player in the league can do that. It is over.

That the Oilers in the 2020s have already made two deep playoff runs is remarkable considering all the flaws they've had, and even last postseason won a playoff series. Next season I tentatively have the Canucks as having the best chance, among Canadian NHL teams, to win a playoff series as so many questions surround the others and because the Canucks did reasonably well in their opening-round series. Yeah, the continued obsession with Tiger Woods doesn't make any sense. He used to be good. Now he's old. It happens to every athlete. And it's terrible for the sport that they don't try harder to actually promote people who are still playing on Sunday. Golf will end up like boxing or tennis where most people only know the names of the people who were good when they were kids, not any of the current contenders.

Far more than 12M is squandered in cap, imo (25-5-36-91-...), while 9% tax at 84M cap is 7.6M . Nurse and Campbell combined at real value should easily offset 8M. Take 8M out from Florida and they still are a great and deep team. Some bright spots in EDM (97-29-14-2, PP, PK) hide these poor decisions from management and ownership. I like the Oilers, but what a shallow, terrible excuse.

Well, not wanting to make this a Leafs issue but the reason the Leafs are not going to win has got nothing to do with high taxes, it's got everything to do with bad management. In this era of hardcap, you need the very best you can get in your front office, we certainly don't have that, Shanahan has been there 10 years and his plan has been a joke. We have 2 guys Domi and Bertuzzi who played very well and brought a bit of what we need to this forward unit but because we have 54 million spent on 5 stiffs we possibly will lose at the very least one of them. And, we find ourselves with major question marks at the goalie position not to speak about our defense which is average at best...you can't build a winning team without either of those very important elements.

No worse than the Panthers never won a Stanley Cup and really deserve one after getting beat by the Golden Knights last year, even Vancouver had won one not as the Canucks but as the Millionnaires when my grandpa was born way back when. The narrative about Oilers winning the Cup as a Canadian team is pretty lame and disloyal to another Canadian team fans who saw their team being defeated directly by its Canadian opponent, even Team Canada had won multiple gold medals during 2010 in Vancouver.

Sunrise is located in Broward County with over 1.9 million people and also part of the Miami metro area with over 6.2 million people, a much bigger market. Dallas is the seat of Dallas County Texas with over 2.6 million people, the entire Dallas metro has over 7.5 million people. You are using Edmonton entire metro population of 1.5 million, the city of Dallas alone is bigger than Edmonton.

The discourse should be the nauseating way Edmonton broke the draft when this terrible league allowed Edmonton to grab four #1 picks in a six-year span. That's disgusting. I hope Draisaitl is suspended two games and doesn't play in the SCF ever again. I hope McDavid leaves Edmonton and wins five cups in a row. Edmonton should not be rewarded for the horrific karma of a dumb league that gifted these generational talents to a team that could not be run any worse for a decade-long stretch.
