Very tragic story a massive fire broke out speculating that an ebike battery was the cause it was submerged just 30 hours before. People at the marina heard an explosion. The wife went back in to save the dog and unfortunately she didn't make it back out. Two other family members were send by helicopter to the trauma center in Miami.

I have been a hvac tech for over 36 years. The last 5 years I have been maintaining and updating first a 29 foot Regal now a 36 foot Meridian. I love working on my boats. I am somewhat made for it being 5'2" and 130 lbs. I have not found a repair yet that I could not complete myself. I would love to do what you do for a living!! You are living my dream!!

We kind of repeat it in videos because people just don’t realize! Our most recent video we show how the batteries were breaking down and we needed to get the off the boat and out of our car! 👍

We tested those lithium batteries on a Bradley Fighting Vehicles at White Sands during summer, it was recommended by a fresh out college electrical engineer group to make money on government project funding bidding. The Bradley caught on fire even with Halon fire suppression systems, it melted the Bradley luckily there’s no live ammunition in it.

Regarding lithium batteries (LiPo); I'm into RC model aircraft. The use of electric RC aircraft surpassed liquid fueled versions 10 or 12 years ago. It's not uncommon to crash a model aircraft. There are plenty of KZfaq videos showing that. The RC community learned very quickly the hazards of damaged LiPo batteries. The push to have Electric Vehicals (EV's) is fraught with risk. Ask any professional Fire Fighter. Cheers

We were out on our boat recently to Anclote Key off Tarpon Springs. A guy had a gas grille in the middle of the boat, on the deck, right over the gas tank. He was sitting in the captains seat pinned in by the grille, Bimini. He was the type that you couldn’t tell him anything bc he had his sound system blasting. We’ve seen more of this since Covid and inexperienced boaters purchasing expensive boats.

Very good video, you are a hardworking guy who knows what he is doing and hats impressive. As far as fire safety, as a licensed Captain, we learn firefighting and safety, much like the Navy, private owners and operators (charters) sadly do not. I would highly suggest some training on what to use on a particular type of fire and learn how to use it. When you're scared and nervous EVERYTHING changes.

I’m mr ocd with my boat battery. Even though I run a 13 ft Boston whaler , I still make it a habit to unplug my battery after each use .. I know in their case they couldn’t do that , very sad this happened

I have learned a few things watching your videos, and I was wondering if you guys have tried plastic razor blades (they sell them on Amazon) to safely remove sticky residue or decals. I just tried them on my boat and they are incredible.

What kind of measures have you put in place on your boat our in your home in case of a fire? Look around your house and think about what kind of batteries are in our go-pro's, electric bikes, scooters, camera's, golf cart etc.

OBA oxygen breathing apparatus, with the green canisters that you had to leave outside after use, in case you got oil inside and they would burn!

The term “lithium” describes a family of batteries, some are very prone to thermal runaway. LFP or LifePO4 are much safer and can be fought with Co2 extinguishers and are no more dangerous than a lead acid type. That e-bike and many cars have lithium nickel batteries and those provide its own oxidizer when burning which is very difficult to extinguish. Battleborn and Victron both use the safer LifePO4 chemistry, however I can’t recommend any at this time because most installations are incorrect and need to be treated differently than lead acid. Improperly installed/matched systems usually leads to disappointing performance and battery life. It’s a lot more than just switching over to lithium, it’s the whole system and setup. It’s not a drop in replacement. I build my own batteries and system because I can make it better than anything you can presently buy. Things are changing fast and I predict if we don’t have tariffs or embargo’s, within a year or so we will have much better RV and marine lithium systems available at a much lower price.

I always remove the 100ah lithium batteries from my boat between uses, they’re only 20lbs each,but this situation basically became unavoidable at some point when water got in, and for big boats it just a matter of time.

This boat was avoidable if they knew not to put the e-bike back on the boat after it fell overboard.

OBA is what they were called when I was in. Oxygen breathing apparatus. Green canisters... been a while they would catch fire if something was not done.. I think you had to take them outside to let the oxygen bleed off??

This fire was not an electric boat …. It was a bike battery that caused the fire. Matt thinks electric boats still need improvements!

my hope is that lithium batteries, which i'm not certain you said was the cause of the fire, will be phased out quickly. i think m3p are the new things--not 100%. it's hard to speculate. her husband&son were airlifted, so my guess is they were in quarters close to the explosion. need more info on where they were to know what you'd do to get out. i think for starters, with a fire that bad, do not go back for the dog.

The yacht is still under investigation… speculation that it was an e-bike battery. Batteries are dangerous once submerged in salt water. It’s an unfortunate tragedy!

I've seen them catch fire on a plane. I thought that was over-cautious but it actually happened on a flight! Scary. Very scary.

Being a repair technician in the fitness equipment industry, quality of the products I work on has gone way down hill. Since Covid doesn’t matter the manufacturer or how much something cost, items that would never break have been breaking. Most of my work is residential, being in a bunch of homes daily, people are always telling me about major household items are breaking only after 2 years after purchase. Just my thoughts!!

yea just the cars they melted i was at a park outside so it wasn't too big of deal i just let them burn till they went out. Not much you can do water just makes lipo fires worse@@WillFixThat

this is concerning, I have the Tesla battery backup tied i t9 my solar panels and in Phoenix in the middle of the day, the batteries are trying to cool down with the built in fans. Even in the garage the batteries struggle to keep cool. I'm waiting for an explosion

Yes its terrible we just want to educate the community on the dangers of these batteries. We see it and have to tell boat owners that don't realize they could have a ticking time bomb!
