I remember, back in 1965, watching The Flight of the Phoenix. It was a movie about a group of survivors of a plane crash who cobbled together the pieces of their crashed plane to make a usable aircraft and fly themselves to safety. one of the big arguments in the movie centered around the fact that the man who designed the reassembled aircraft earned his living designing radio controlled model aircraft. The question was whether a man who made "toy" planes could build a "real" plane. It turned out he could. Looking at this video, the motion of this drone looked familiar. Then, when they showed them using the controller, i was sure. They had simply taken the motor from a remote controlled car that could be purchased at any toy store and installed it in a box with wheels big enough to handle rough ground and strapped a land mine to the top. The idea of fastening a bomb to a toy car has been a feature of action films for decades. This young man has worked out how to do it in real life. He has turned a toy car into an actual combat vehicle.
@god-tx4xz
@god-tx4xz Жыл бұрын
That's not how it works. These are built from scratch. Toy cars would never have enough power to move all this. Also, the transmitter is not a pair with the motor but rather the receiver only. The motor and transmitter are as far apart as america and china.

My friends and I used to design, build and fight non-lethal combat robots (as in 'Robot Wars' and 'BattleBots'). They weighed 100 lbs [45kg] and we soon discovered that one thing all such machines needed was a 'srimech' or self-righting mechanism. For these armed military devices, being able to recover from an accidental inversion is essential if the robot isn't to be rendered immobile by rough terrain, roadside kerbs, and other obstacles. Flip a tortoise onto its back, and it's helpless. 🐢👀 The alternative to a complicated srimech would be to use large enough wheels to allow the robot to operate both upright and inverted whilst keeping the chassis and payload clear of the ground. Just a thought.🤔

Anti-tank mines often have a magnetic detector in the fusing mechanism so that they are not wasted on small vehicles like cars. Take the pressure switch out of the line and this just runs under the tank and explodes when it senses a large amount of metal. Proximity fuse anti-aircraft shells worked similarly, with a spin counter that armed them after a certain number of revolutions so that they didn’t explode in the barrel. When they got near an aircraft, kaboom!

This is brilliant with very little extra cost one could be designed with a periscope for a slightly better view when going in long grass. Also various clip on camouflage options to be able to better blend in till the last moment. This would allow lots of low cost weapons to take out costly enemy units. Possible countermeasures would be; done signal detection, signal jamming, and signal location detection to try take out the drone through hardkill means.
@jackthorton10
@jackthorton10 Жыл бұрын
So Emp or small arms fire would probably stop it?
@PatrickHutton
@PatrickHutton Жыл бұрын
@@jackthorton10 Well EMP could but of course it'd adversely affect the defender's electronics too. There are a variety of softkill options as defence against anti tank/vehicle missiles that jam or misdirect signals to prevent the missile striking its target. Hardkill options like softkill on detection of the missile threat launch a small projectile that detonates in proximity to the incoming missile to destroy/neutralise it before impact. So softkill could interfere with its signalling and hardkill could take it out before impact. Obviously this is they "could possibly". The ground drone could be expanded to include concepts like a reconnaissance ground drone. And a stand off attack drone that could have a couple of small anti vehicle missiles to launch from say 100 metres away. Or one capable of being a platform for an auto canon capable of taking out armoured vehicles (not tanks) from a distance.

Likely remote detonating the mine once under the tank, rather than trying to deposit it in front of a track. It's a bye bye to the vehicle, but the same goes for the bare bones FPV quad drones strapped to RPG warheads...

The article only covers one side of the storey. Not every mine delivery will be successful in an instant explosion and destroyed vehicle. There will be many unexploded mines left littering the Ukraine and anywhere else that these devices are used. Unmapped mine fields with the mines precise locations (and now drone-mine fields) where the unexploded mine location can’t be mapped, is a nightmare for the civilian population (and mine clearance teams) around the world for decades to come with many lives lost and many more amputees paying the price.

And the guys atVickers (don't think Hobart was there) that developed essentially the same thing as the Goliath, (before the Germans) but it was abandoned due to overheating motors and issues navigating battlefield terrain.

converting a lawnmower without suspension to blow up tanks in all terrains is just dumb, these toys are useless in real wars 🤦‍♂
