Tommy Angelo is a taxi driver who eventually becomes a made man in the Salieri crime family, based in the fictional city of Lost Haven, Illinois. Had he been arrested after the events of "Mafia: Definitive Edition", these are the criminal charges he would have faced.

It's funny how Tommy sometimes seems harmless compared to the characters from RockStar Games. I mean, Tommy killed a lot of people, that's true, but most of it was in self-defense. I really like the way Thomas Angelo is portrayed in both the original Mafia and DE. Even watching this video I had a small manly tear. The developers did a good job, bravo. Somewhere I actually read that molotovs are legal under very specific circumstances. Or maybe I completely misunderstood. But to be fair, by that point Thomas is already basically a criminal, just not a made man yet.

Technically speaking, possession of incendiary devices didn't become illegal on a national level until 1968 with the adoption of the GCA. Theoretically, a simple match could be considered an incendiary device if there's evidence that it was going to be used in a crime.

In Tommy's defense, the officers didn't disclose their affiliations, weren't wearing official uniforms, were brandishing weapons, and were very obviously planning on killing Tommy in that moment.

The 9 death sentences were because Tommy killed 9 police officers. In the U.S, murder of law enforcement officers, active duty military personnel, and federal agents are, or at least were, punishable by death. Every other murder was of a civilian.

Felony murder, AKA: accessory to murder, means that while Tommy didn't pull the trigger, he was still responsible for the death. To be considered responsible, the suspect needed to have been involved in planning the murder and/or refused to do anything to potentially prevent the murder. In this situation, Tommy was the aggressor, he started the gun fight to begin with, and was intent on committing the murder himself. Sammy just finished the job for him.
