You know Clark, every time I see those cattle it brings to mind when I was a kid traveling from the cities to the family farm in Northern Minnesota. When we passed a field with a herd of cows in it my Dad would always holler out ' Good Morning Ladies'.. which would always get us kids laughing... I later did that with my kids and grandkids........

Seeing Skunk at work was even more emotional for me this time because we had to take our younger boy to the vet for the last time on Thursday just a couple of weeks short of his 14th birthday and his Father is still following us all around the house and yard looking for him. I use the things I've seen to catch coyotes and feral dogs that get in my goat pen and mess with my sheep and cows thanks for all you've taught me you've been a big help

Cattle (& sometimes deer) readily eat flagging tape which is worth being aware of. Relocating once visited baits, trap sites etc days later can be much more difficult if the tape isn't put somewhere they are unlikely to browse it. Baiting staff knowing this can make life easier. On different species following poison operations, survivors seemed to be more wary for a few weeks to several months Some were really difficult to locate for awhile. If that theory was valid and applied to dogs, the follow up interval might be relevant.

It takes me back to when I was trapping rabbits [3$ a pair] .I was only about 9 y / o and found a small box in my grandpa's shed full of sawdust , in the sawdust was some small ampules . The box was labelled Lavacide , My brother and I deduced it was rabbit poison so out to the warren we went We cracked open these things outside the burrows planning to toss them in What happened next was the most horrible sensation I have ever endured Back into gramps shed ,never to be touched again ...............beware....

When I was growing up in the 1960's, we used that type of gate down in Victoria. They got tangled up and nasty all the time. Ah, the memories!

When I was about 13 or 14 my fathers sheep dog had pups and I chose one and started to train him up and I named him Tip. He was such an amazingly marked long haired collie with mirror markings and a touch of brown in his face. That dog from day one knew what I wanted him to do before I asked and from a pup he was learning so fast and every day I would be with him training and walking him around the land on the family farm. Living where we did and next to a main road people would stop and watch me training him and even a local farmer called in and offered me £500 in his hand to buy him but there was no way I was parting with him because I knew this dog was special and had potential and I had a bond that wasn’t going to be broken. We have an annual agricultural show and that year there was a competition for sheep dogs and obedience and best looking dog and everyone said I would definitely win it with tip especially George who had offered me the £500 then he raised his offer to £800. Then at about Six months old I had to go to town with my parents to get a hair cut and shopping etc and when we returned there was a local gamekeeper who had called in to get his milk was going frantic saying there’s a dog in that building and it sounds serious. It was tip he was howling and screaming in pain! We threw all the shopping out of the car and I carried tip and placed him in the car still screaming and we set off back to town to the vets which was 20 miles away then at the half way point tip went silent and died. I was absolutely heartbroken, my best buddy had gone and we couldn’t understand why but we carried on to the vets and they did a postmortem on him. Now Clark you mentioned poison well that’s what was in his stomach, someone had laced some meat with strychnine and thrown it in the building where he was kept! When we arrived home the window had been smashed and obviously thrown the meat in for him. This had obviously been done out of spite, jealousy and no doubt competition by some really sick person. I know my dad had found out who had done it and I know that he had taken matters into his own hands but he never told ever told me or anyone, I remember his knuckles all cut and bruised shortly afterwards and even as he lay on his bed before he died I asked him who did kill Tip and he just looked at me and said nothing and took it to his grave. I’ll never know who did it I could definitely think of two but I could never prove anything and maybe it’s just as well.

Hey Clark I have a question regarding camping where there is plenty of wild dogs. I have a cage on my ute to keep my dog safe, but am I safe sleeping in a swag on a stretcher beside the ute. Big Dog but not educated I guess

Here in nz 1080 is dropped from helicopter to kill opossums . But it kills everything deer pigs and rats along with native birds lizards and insects. We end up with quite bush lands

Good effort Clark on the dog trapping ,but 1080 well that's something I do not like and I think it should be banned it is a terrible way to kill an animal and it keeps on killing just look at the damage it does in NZ to the wildlife and farmers cattle but the possums and rats are still there.

Poor Skunk your owner had enough money to fly to BC for a holiday but not enough to take you to the Vet.
