The chin curtain in the Neotec 2 is removable, just have to pop the 2 corners on the chin spoiler and it slides right out, then pop the chin spoiler back in place.

Nice review. Very good observations. I haven't tried the C5, but I've been using the Neotec2 for quite a while now and can confirm all your observations. One other thing I have observed is that the bottom edge of the shield on the Noetec2 is kind of thick and does interfere with the vision if I keep it one notch open - which is the typical way I ride in the summers to get sufficient venting. This is at least compared to other helmets (Nolans, AGV, Schuberth) I have owned before. The Schuberth S2 I used to own had the sun visor come completely lose while I was riding, giving me almost a heart-attack. So I've stayed clear of them for a while now, but I may give a chance to the new E2 (which is a C5 with a beak).

@@melissasmotorcycleadventures Thanks to you I smartly tried them both today. Both fit in Med equally as well btw. Here MY ME MINE reasons why I purchase the Shoei: It was impossible to remove or put on the C5 without first flipping up the chin piece; the Shoei could be removed and put back on like a regular full face helmet with out issue. The neck strap on both helmets are fat, bulky and press oddly on the throat but the C5 pressed worse for me being actually kind of, not painful, but disconcerting with discomfort. The C5 top vent was quite difficult to move and not 'grippy' for glove operation IMO. The C5 chin skirt piece was more obtrusive when flipping the chin piece back down. Don't need or want the included speakers, wiring and such. I'll install and use my preferred ones.

Been riding with the C5 for a year now, very nice helmet, quiet. Visor and screen tend to loosen up a bit during usage, not always bad, but sometimes i wish they would be a bit sturdier. Things tend to move inadvertently from time to time. It is a pretty quiet helmet, but I still put some nice Alpine earplugs for extra noise reduction.

After trying both helmets on multiple visits to several retailers I came to the conclusion that my head is better suited for the shape of the C5 than the Neotec. I was told that the Schuberth is not like other helmet fits. The Shoei fit great so I got it. Sweet helmet but I wish the manufacturers would not fixate on one brand of coms. I hear from a lot of riders that the Cardo is a better system. Thanks for posting this Melissa!

Thanks for the review of these two helmets. I own both. In relation to some of your comments my findings personally are : - the chinstrap angle is different but in my case - as is the case for some of the people that ride with it - this does not chafe or irritate the neck or throat area; - fair point on cracking open the visor, and the Schoei is a little tougher, but my Schuberth would open violently at times when doing a shoulder check; - the slider to open/close the sun visor is a little harder to find on the Schoei in the beginning but on the Schuberth it broke fairly quickly and couldn't be fixed; - the pins holding the padding around the base on the Schuberth also broke; - I find the Schoei is quieter; - I dislike Sena ... a lot and am still looking for a better and more affordable system. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there.

I have a Neotec from 2017 that still has the D-rings. Tried the Schubert E2 which is essentially a C5 and had the same issue with the chin strap and my throat. With the Neotech 3 coming out soon in the US, retailers are slashing the prices on the 2s (about 200 bucks). I’m tempted to get another 2, but I’m concerned about the chin/throat issue. My current 2 has been great. Maybe I’ll just get some new pads and hold on for another season or two. Thanks for the review.

@triplem9805
@triplem9805 Жыл бұрын
One thing you didn't mention is that both helmets have exchangeable inner linings of different thicknesses to help get a perfect fit. The Schuberth ones come at an additional cost but here in the UK there is at least one retailer (Motolegends in Guildford) that doesn't charge for these when fitting them to a new helmet. Also the Schuberth is tested to the newer and more rigorous ECE 22.06 standard while the Shoei is 22.05 - but the standards are different in the USA. It was that, and the fact that the Schuberth is available with a peak as the E2, that swung the decision for me; the difference having that shade makes when riding into a low sun is incredible. Might look weird on a sportsbike or a retro, though!

I have the C5 and the Neotec 2 and the Shoe is simply a better helmet. Why? The visor detents on the C5 are very light so it doesn't stay in a selected position well at all. Further, the down "lock" position depends on the visor snapping into the helmet on both sides and the process doesn't work well at all in practice. Both very frustrating points for me. This is why I went to the Neotec 2. I tried two C5's and they both had this issue. My only complaint on the Neotec2 is the amount of wind that comes through the lower vent when open. It's a lot and there is only one setting. The upcoming Neotec 3 addresses this point.

I had been a loyal fan of Scorpion Helmets for quite a while with my last one being an R320. Earlier this year I decided to treat myself and went and bought a Shoei Neotec2. The guy at the store I went to was not a big fan of the Schuberth and I had not heard a lot about them so I went with what I know. I agree with you on the chin strap padding, sometimes it feels as if it's to far down on my throat. Other than that, I love my Shoei. It's exceptionally comfortable, lightweight and has decent airflow. I don't, however, like how far back I have to mount my Cardo, but that is a problem on most helmets today. Thanks for the great information, I might just get a second modular, and go with a Schuberth.

I have had the C5 for a few months. The visor was finicky to close tightly(one side would latch only) The fix is a little bit of silicone spray on a q tip and lubricate two little ramps near hinge area that are the latch close on visor. Same silicone application on sun visor slide makes both as smooth as you would expect. Helmet is quiet One con for me is the detention that holds visor open could be stronger as wind will knock it closed. (Not chin bar). After 5000miles I am still happy with purchase

@@effyzzr yes I heard the visor gets loose after awhile too but my husband went with the neotech and he is regretting it. The vents are way better in the C5. He really liked that you could just crack the C5 visor a tiny bit and the memory visor is a bonus too. Again, I think it comes down to personal preference though cause I've met ppl who swear by the neotech.

The Shoei is in a different league to the Schuberth on many levels. To begin with the Shoei wont come open if you chin the ground, the Schuberth's opening mech is extremely vulnerable. The opening mech should work by pulling down, as on the Shoei. It should not be possible to open the chin bar with a mere stab of the finger. The P/J switch on the C5 is tiny, stiff, and very sharp, a glove ripper in fact. With the Shoei, no messing around, you just push the chin bar up one notch. The strap fastener on the Shoei is tucked away where it can not be caught by a twig as you slide through a hedge, the C5's hangs lower and is again vulnerable. As if that is not enough they then fit a lasso to the mech release to improve its chances of catching something. Overall the Schuberth, fit notwithstanding, is a poor second.

@donk1822 Жыл бұрын
@@MrPleasureMaker Doesn't it just Andy! But 22.06 did nothing to force manufacturers to pursue good design principles, mostly just thicker, and therefore heavier shells. Seriously, the C5 is one of the laziest designs I have seen in the last 40 years in the trade. Even a £90 Frank Thomas helmet has a safer opening mech. I will make a video and I will post it on YT for clarification. I make it quite clear to my potential customers when they ask which is the best flippie, I tell them that I might borrow one or two of the lesser flip fronts, Nolan, RPHA90S, for example, but the Shoei is the only one I would actually pay money for. All the best.

I’m currently looking for a new helmet since my Shoei Neotec now hurts the top of my head and really puts pressure on my ears. Just curious what size you wear in your Schuberth C5 and no bobble head feeling with only two shell sizes?

Loved the content, but I do have some feedback I'd love to give you. 1) You've got a great vibe, and a great diction / voice. 2) Your thoughts are really well organized, and the dialog feels very genuine. 3) You could use more B roll, more stock video (Story blocks might be an investment if you're looking to make this a long time project). 4) Visually although you're lovely, the camera becomes a bit boring fast trying new angles, different shots, and B roll might help retention. I really think you've got what's needed to start a successful motorcycle channel on KZfaq, I'll subscribe because this was really great.

Hi Nasser. I also immediately discovered this behavior of the visor as well. I came from a previous Schuberth that did not experience this. My guess is that it may be due to a couple variables-- the tightness of the mechanism and the shape of the helmet. I notice the position of my head when I ride will make a huge difference at the speed when the visor will auto-close. I'm used to it now but will admit it was startling the first couple times.

I own a Neotec 2 for 3 years now. Worn a lot of other brands but nothing compares. The Chin curtain should not catch your chin. Maybe you have a shape of head or lower jaw which is not suited for the Neotec 2. There are multiple chin curtains for sale for if you would like more breathability. Also the chinstrap is very comfortable for most people. I know a lot of people who own a Neotec 2 and none of them have a problem with the chinstrap position. Most of the other complaints you have about the Neotec are just related to the fact you arent used to the helmet. When wearing it for a while you get used to the positioning of sunvisor etc. When wearing it for longer then 5 days you know how to open and shut it without catching the microphone with the chinguard. Also the helmet does click when it closes its just caused by your speed at which you close it. If you close something so slow ofcourse it doesnt click as hard. The minimal latch on the Neotec actually works really well. Just unlatch the visor from the locked position and ventilation improves in such a way that there is no need for ‘cracking the visor open’ as all these desktop testers complain about. Actually when you have placed the noseguard (which you haven’t) and you open the front vent it blows the visor clear all the time. Also when you shut the helmet and the visor stays up like the C5 it means you now have to close it twice to close it in case of entering a cloud of dust or rain up ahead. Please have fun with the schuberth but just don’t act like you tested stuff or advise people to buy one or the other while you havent even unboxed it or rode around in it for a while.

I have a C5. A couple of things : 1. I thought the visor position retention when opening and closing the flip front was a gimmick, but it is actually very nice. I prefer it that way. 2. The visor has a tiny gap in the very last step before completely closed, this is a very nice feature. A big plus for me in colder and even not so cold weather 3. The flip mechanism works very well, open and close. but .... 1. Like with my BMW system 7 (which is also a schuberth below the skin) the helmet shakes a little side to side if the visor is cracked open slightly, from about 70kph and up. Very annoying. The shaking stops the moment you completely shut the visor. My old helmet does not do this. (A plus though - with the system 7 the shaking increased with speed and became intolerable by about 100kph. The C5 does not - shaking remains about the same all the way up to 120kph, so that's a big improvement. I am slowly getting used to it, pity I have to though) 2. The pinlock insert is not as effective as my last helmet - it fogs up a bit on out breaths at slow speed if the visor is closed. I think this is partly because the helmet seals very well, so a plus and a minus. 3. Closing the visor is not always easy. Sometimes it closes ok, sometimes I have to support the bottom of the helmet with my shoulder and press really hard for the visor to fully close. Slightly annoying but not a big deal I guess. (I have seen several complaints about closing the C5 visor) Overall I am happy with the C5. Would I buy it again? tough call. I think so. In the end more plusses than minuses.
