Amazing video series on slipping the clutch. My question is this, and I’m sure a million people have asked. What is the compression and rebound you choose for the rear shock? My forks I have pretty dialed in as the zip ties around the fork leg show I’m using the full stroke. How about the rear? Have you done a video on suspension? Thanks for everything! My learning curve after riding over forty years has started to climb again!

So easy to do all of this while watching behind a screen. In the real world, I am still at step 1 on the balance and clutch skills. I think I have the mental part of it down, it's just practicing much much more to convince myself I have the physical skill. Hopefully somewhere along the line these techniques start to be more automatic as opposed to thinking every step in the process. Great vid and pointers as always.

It looks so easy to get the front wheel in the air. Do you think you can do this with a KTM 690 Enduro? For me it seems that I can´t even compress my front suspension in that way. But first I will keep on training static balance. (I must say that I am not the strongest person with less than 70 kg)

Since winter never wants to leave northern Utah, I thought I’d uncover and get my bike out in the yard and work on clutch control and slow wheelies like in this video. Half a dozen kills and kick starts over and over(yz250x) front wheel came up ubruptly and as the bike leaned to the side, I put my foot out to catch my balance and slid on the wet grass and leaves and blew my knee out. Torn MCL and meniscus. All about 10ft from the garage door and within 15 min of warming up the engine. Guess I missed something. Still love the vids though.

Cool as always :-) But on a 4stroke like I ride I very often popp my engine out right at the moment where my bike is up and the first correction with the clutch lies ahead. Is it because of my too rough clutch control or just because of the motor characteristic?

Out of curiosity do you normally use your middle finger for the clutch? If so, that is my preference as well. But, I've always been told that you loose the majority of your grip strength and you should use your index finger. Thoughts???
@DADSGETNDOWN
@DADSGETNDOWN 2 жыл бұрын
When you do this, like you say, the goal is to use as little throttle as possible, but, I seem to have to use alot, whether 1st or 2nd gear, although I am on an old 1994 CR80 and I use the brakes and suspension as best I can to help. Although part of my problem is I am a bit handicapped, with no leg strength, so I don't get my feet on the ground, I would probably fall to my knees.
@krazed0451
@krazed0451 2 жыл бұрын
You'll have to have the revs considerably higher on that bike, it doesn't have the grunt of a modern 250/300 to allow you to keep them low. It's gonna be much harder to get that balance given the peaky nature of the smaller engine, if you can afford to switch to something with more linear power you'll find learning a lot easier. If not, keep at it and have fun :-)
@DADSGETNDOWN

@@DADSGETNDOWN They're awesome little bikes, just not really suited to lugging, lol. Not sure which bike to suggest that's pretty light/low, hopefully some others chime in with suggestions :-) I'd suggest a flywheel weight but I don't think any one makes one for the pre 96 models unfortunately.

@kobiabr7532 Жыл бұрын
Hi Rich, From what I see, what you are doing is compresing the front using your right foot, not your hips, am I wrong? Beside that, why using the rear brake, since the bike is on, it will not move backwards. Hope to get the accurate response. King regards Kobi
@IRCTireUSAMoto
@IRCTireUSAMoto Жыл бұрын
The inertia from my hips is what is maximizing my suspension compression. Sure I’m driving through with my right foot. I’m driving through with my arms, but hips are where all that power comes from. If you were stationary and just pressed down with your arms and leg, you wouldn’t get nearly as much compression. We also are using our rear brake to increase that same compression. Because the tire is locked in place this allows that energy to go directly to the suspension and not lost and dispersed in the movement of the wheels.

Started single trail riding last year, at 42, already existing street rider for many years. Here's a list of things I managed to achieve with less effort than the effort required to master the dirt bike techniques: -getting an engineering degree -staying happily married and raising two kids -obtaining a Private Pilot License (this one was easy) -becoming an amateur powerlifter -investing in stocks and crypto. None of the above was harder for me than trying to clear some wet roots or boulders here in Pacific North West...and I'm already riding an ADV bike on FSRs for years...I might sell the dirt bike in the spring...I was defeated.
