Adam I'm surprised that you have not got a bucket with a mark on it for how much water to use to mix one bag of Sakrete. You will be able to have a more consistent mix of cement and it will take much less time. I used to be able to mix one bag of Sakrete in about 30 seconds using this method. Great video thumbs up.
@mikewatson46447 ай бұрын
That system works good. I use empty 1 gallon milk jugs. On the first bag, I figure out how much water to add to get the consistency that I want and then it's a go from there. I usually put most of the water in first and then the rest on top. Helps keep the dust down

I bought an auger for my tiny excavator and it's one of my favorite attachments. I don't use it very often but when I do it's a game changer.

Hi Adam instead of using a tape measure for logs to fit in your trailer, why not have one length of timber ie 2 x 1 the length you need and use this as a measure stick for all trailer cut lumber 😊

What a great location for your equipment storage, close by the house but also out of the way 👍🏻 Great video!!

As far as rebar those 3 rods won't do much concrete is great and handling compressive force it needs help with lateral forces. What you needed was 4 bars tied together near the top and bottom, This acts to keep the concrete expanding outwards. Tho technically for your application it isn't required at at.

Everyone needs a Neighbor Doug! Seems like there’s more control and ease of use with that style than the 3pt diggers. A few limitations that you mentioned with the tractor but still pretty nice. Great to have options switching to the mini which was even better!

Love your videos! Just a quick tip for finding square 90 degrees corners. Measure 3 inches/feet/meters on one side, 4 on the other side, then measure the diagonal to 5, and you are set! Bet you never expected to make good use of Pythagoras in real life, eh? 😅 Also works with 6/8/10, 9/12/15 or any other factor. Looking forward to your next projects! Best regards from Norway! 🇳🇴

Adam, using the excavator for drilling holes is a much more efficient way to punch holes for your concrete pour. That is a great location for your building. Blessings to you.

I had 18 holes to do. Luckily my neighbor had an excavator with the auger attachment. The auger on a tractor was not going to get it done. I ended up having to add dirt to the top to get 36" to pass inspection for a few holes. Totally the way to do it. Good job.

Hey Adam. We needed to dig 21 holes for our pole barn and used a backhoe. It would have been nice to use an auger. We don't call it the "Granite State" for nothing. Looking good, thanks for the video. Todd in NH.

I own a micro ex with auger and there are ground conditions that wont auger. I found this out this year. 40in down there was packed clay with dinner plate sized rocks. After one hole I took the auger off and had to dig each of the 14 other sono tube holes. You just never know what's just under the surface of the ground.

When mixing your quikrete, figure out how much water you need per bag, then measure the water into a 5 gal bucket and pour it into the mixer all in at once. That way you are not having to deal with all the concrete dust from spraying it with a hose and it's faster mixing with better more consistent results in the mixing.

Using the hydraulic auger is the way to go. One step to save some time would have been to wet set your post bases. Then you don’t have to drill/epoxy/anchor. Good to see neighbor Doug helping you out with squaring the posts. That’s a pain doing it by yourself.

Posts in the concrete at grade will still be rotten enough to require replacement in 20-30 years. Pressure treated lumber bolted into post brackets on top of footings is code in many areas that allower habitation of post frame buildings for a reason. In 50+ years your wood will still be rot-free. Just like a conventional stick-frame home built on a slab. I respect Adam for taking the extra time and expense to do it this way. I am speaking this as someone who is currently letting 21 posts dry enbedded in the concrete as you suggested. It’s a little goat barn, and we won’t be living here in 10 years. 😂

Great beginning for one of your equipment buildings. Should you decide down the road to build a bigger building on the pad Ralph helped set up you can repurpose the building now under construction for even more fun activities like the family get togethers with friends etc Mom’s right, parents love are a great to have around. Both of our sons are very well established and independent but they call for advice every once in a while. See you in the next episode.

Thanks Jim. Yeah that’s the plan. Use it for the tractor and excavator this winter and then when we build the larger building we will end up using this one for the zero turn, side by side and fourwheeler

I know its too late now, but the sonotube should go all the way to the bottom of the hole....then if the ground does move, it moves on the tube NOT the concrete......ask me how I know! 😜
@robertmartin33677 ай бұрын
A good hard freeze will move your posts if done your way, you need a smooth surface to slide on. Not a rough surface like concrete. The tubes should go about at least40 inches in our area.
@jimmerrithew4537 ай бұрын
When you use sonotubes, wrap vapour barrier poly around the length of the tube twice. Tape the poly to the tube at grade. Fill around the tube with coarse gravel. The coarse gravel won't hold as much moisture, so that will reduce the chance of frost heave. When the ground freezes, the ice will bond to the outer layer of the poly. If that heaves, the outer layer slides over the inner one. Less chances of the tube shifting.
