Music production can be really challenging, especially for the beginner. Learning how to write, record and produce your own songs can take years.
So how do you get to the point where you finish music and master tracks for release? If you have a creative mind, then you've most likely felt unmotivated and hopeless about the prospect of finishing your tunes at some point in your journey as a music producer. We attach ourselves to the art. In this video I share with you the most effective skill that I have developed over the last few years, which has helped me immensely to get my motivation back on track.

I struggle a lot with a creative block. I think I'm a workaholic, and when I'm not able to feel as if I was productive by the end of the day, it affects my self-worth terribly. The more time passes and my anxiety over it grows, the bigger the block becomes. I'm glad you made this video, because letting go and working on presets or random individual sounds does exactly what you said it does--it gives my brain a sense of reward which makes me feel better and helps me progress through the block. Another tip: I like to challenge myself to make a song in a single evening based on an idea, and then I share whatever I have at the end of the night with others. Because it's not a "real" song, I'm able to let go and just have fun experimenting, and there's no pressure because I'm already accepting the caveat that whatever I'm posting is unfinished. I've done this a few times now, and every time, I've surprised myself with pieces of music that I enjoyed so much that I wanted to finish them and turn them into complete tunes. So my advice is to do quick self-imposed music challenges for fun that force you to share something you'd normally never share. It feels really good when something interesting and surprising comes out of the process.

I absolutely LOVE your tip. This is brilliant. Going to immediately try this out. Thanks so much for sharing. We can end up being really hard on ourselves. A creatives work is personal. I love work too. But sometimes the pressure is crippling and it's essential that we find ways to minimise the impact on self worth , especially on days when we don't feel as productive or "successful".

Davy thank you so much for your comment. It's great to learn more about you. You've inspired me to plan some liquid dnb tutorials. Going to make a note of that. It's always helpful to hear what people are interested in making. Thank you for the kind words too. Great to have you here. 😊

The intro nailed it on the friggin head for me! Especially when i share my music up on a huge platform and NO ONE LISTENS TO IT or if they do.. they refuse to comment on it.. letting you know what is good or bad.. lol.. i just feel like.. well.. i made this track for absolutely nothing.... lol.. Yeah i try to do it for myself because i generally love music.. but when no one else cares about what you do.. it gets frustrating.. cus you have no idea if you are doing good or shit lol.. Keep up the great work!

Yeah I hear you on that one. My friend shared some advice with me that really helped with regards to this, he said "just keep finishing and putting out tunes". It's really helping me at the moment. The other thing which is essential these days is social media and building your own community. I'm dipping in and out of tiktok and instagram atm. Since the pandemic I've found social media a bit of a challenge. It used to be my forte. Twitch feels more comfortable still for me. Find which social media platform works for you and go hard on it. Get people to hear your stuff!

This is actually really good advice 👍 I've been wanting to work on identity because I feel like it's something a lot of people actually miss out on in the early stages. People want to hear your unique music, if it wasn't unique they'd just go listen to all the other ones that drown your own out. Be unique, make your own sounds and build identity! Great advice 😁

What works for me is to spend a max 4hrs every 4-5 days just working on a basic intro and drop of a new track instead of a whole song then i add this to my playlist that i listen to at the end of each month. By the end of the month i know which tracks stand out the most because they jump out at you and they are the ones i work on and finish. I also find not listening to ANY sort of music for 3-4 days does wonders for me...its like a cleansing of my musical mind which makes me enjoy listening to it more.

I love this way of working Mattie! I do a similar thing with regards to 4-5 hours a day, broken up into segments and then a few days off doing othet things. It also helps to give the ears a rest. I like the idea of creating just intros and drops and then listening back at the end of the month. Gonna try that one out myself. Thanks for sharing 😊

Hahaha I will add mind reading to my skillset list. 😅 yeah writers blocks are nasty. I've found that when I take the pressure off and just do other stuff that I know will help me when I come back to making music, it reignites the creative drive.
