There are people that go by and buy all of what is left from an estate sale. They play a really cheap price but save those from holding the estate sale from picking things up afterwards. That's why estate sales don't really go down in price on things on last day.

my best yard sale find was in 2015 at a community sale. walked up on a random house FULL of vintage computer graphics software (SiliconGraphics). Turns out the guy was a former SGI Employee. he had HUNDREDS of software discs for Silicon Graphics sitting out. He also had BOXES of old random hardware and old macintosh stuff. I was barely looking thru it when he said "For $10, you can have it ALL". i was taken off guard and since i was driving an old pickup truck with an empty bed, i said sure. I loaded a 6ft bed FULL of software and macintosh stuff. Within the first two weeks i had sold around 10% of the software for around $1,500, and 40% of the hardware for around $2,500. I still have a ton of it years and years later but i think i've made over $10,000 in profit. Crazy. Thats the kind of stuff that gets me up in the morning.

The back of the Harley t-shirt tags and one of the sweatpants have the Holoubek logo. Holoubek was a Milwaukee area company that held one of the three Harley apparel licenses. Holoubek artists created the front print and back print designs (eagle with the hat) and the company produced the t-shirts in-house. Holoubek was sold to VF Imagewear in January 2005 and ceased to exist, so anything from Holoubek is from 2005 at the oldest. The tag in the darker grey pair of sweatpants with the HD script logo has a different style of tag. Tags with the eagle are from Harley-Davidson Motorclothes. I'm friends with a former Holoubek artist who did the design on the light grey sweatpants you have there.

When you find items that use standard, Heavy Duty, Alkaline, Carbon Base types of Batteries and find the batteries have leaked, leaving a green colored corrosion on the contacts in the battery compartment, you can try doing this to clean the corrosion off. Take Sodium Bicarbonate, (Baking Soda) and place it on the green corroded areas, I just sprinkle the Baking Soda on the corrosion, but the Baking Soda does not stick on the corrosion, and most of it ends up in the battery compartment where there is no corrosion. I have not tried doing this, you could try making a paste of Baking Soda and water to make it easier for getting it on the corroded areas, use only a small amount of water to make a drier type of paste. After applying the paste on the areas to be cleaned, get a toothbrush, maybe get ones with different bristles, soft, medium, stiff or even try to use a small toothbrush type Brass wire brush, dip the brush in white vinegar, then brush the corroded areas to remove the green corrosion. Baking Soda will neutralize the battery acid, the vinegar is acidic and cause the Baking Soda to react with the vinegar's acid, it will bubble and fizzle, this will neutralize the residue, leaked battery acid in difficult areas to get at and help to loosen the present acid corrosion, use brush'(s) to remove the battery acid corrosion. When the bubbling reaction stops, dip the brush in more vinegar and keep working to remove all the corrosion, add more paste mixture as needed, repeat as necessary. If you use a brass brush, it may work better to remove the more severe corrosion areas easier, if necessary, use a small flat-bladed screwdriver, knife or razor blade to scrape off any really difficult corrosion. Try, not to remove the bright colored plating on the, (+), (positive) & (-), (negative) contacts, the plating is for corrosion resistance, so removing it will take the protection from future corrosion away. After you get the corrosion removed and all cleaned up, make sure to clean the vinegar off, the acid in it could cause more corrosion, wipe it off with paper towels and/or cotton Q-tips, then use the Denatured Alcohol saturated Q-tips to clean the contact areas. One last suggestion, look at the wires soldered onto the (+/-), contacts, make sure the wire is attached, not broken/corroded off, clean any corrosion if present. Also, an FYI, the corrosion can get on the wire under the outer vinyl/plastic wire cover, and not be visible. I have used this method many times and it has worked well on removing/cleaning the battery acid and corrosion, the Baking Soda will neutralize the leaked acid and help to keep the acid from causing more damage after removing corrosion it had already caused. I hope this will help you out and something you remember and use in the future, I don't believe, just using Denatured Alcohol will neutralize the residue battery acid left, if it is not all cleaned out, I would rather neutralize the acid as an added safeguard against reappearing corrosion in a short time.

As you may have figured out by looking at your post, if you put a dash immediately before and immediately after any typing, it appears with a line through whatever is between the dashes. You can edit your original comment using the three dots to the right of your name. I suggest you edit your original comment for clarity, by removing the dashes or by moving them a space or two away - like this - so that the line through the words does not happen. When you enter it with the dashes right next to the text -like this- it puts the line through.

The best find I ever had at a garage sale was the last sale of the day. I had about $10 left and decided to stop at one more. The lady didn't have much there, and she said, "I'll let you have everything here for $100." I told her I couldn't help her with $100, and started looking. She had 2 silver rings, both bands, and the smaller, but heavier, of the two was marked $7. I bought it and went home. When I got home, I looked inside the ring, and it was marked "18k Art Carved," so it was 18k white gold. I felt good and bad about that. I would have gone beck and given her more money, but I had no idea which house it was. Oh, well...

"A snapper up of unconsidered trifles.." - my favorite line in any poem ever. People turn cash into thrash all day every day - trick is to filter the thrash & turn it back into cash by knowing the value, being business-like - amongst the non-business-like. Watching these videos, it's painful - in a good way. It's like stealing candy off a baby - with no disrespect intended. They rate it thrash - it's just a perspective issue. They buy it high & sell low. Always..ALWAYS be going the opposite way, in a polite manner.

I was cleaning out an old barn that belonged to the company I worked for a few years ago, when I stumbled across a full case of very old Coke Glasses! The glass was very thick, very heavy and I am certain they came from an old restaurant, because there were so many of them (there was actually five cases of them) that were all grouped together! The problem was three of the other cases had got crushed and broken when part of the barn fell on them! The other case was damaged by the glasses looked fine, but they were harder to dig out, and the case I had, was the only case not destroyed or damaged in anyway, so that was the case I took home (I was told to throw them out by the way)!! I cleaned the glasses up and put them on Craig's List with a Coca Cola cooler I'd also found in the same pile, and for four months nobody was even interested in them!! Eventually I tossed them in the trash, because I was just tired of holding on to them!!

We lived in a small town, and we used to sell at the flea market. There was this one dealer (professional seller) who would go around to yard sales and give sob stories of how her daughter had just escaped from an abusive man, and needed that microwave. Could the seller drop the price from $15 to $3? It's REALLY all she had with her. Used to make mom so mad - she'd go up and ask, "Well, Mabel, did you have three microwaves in your booth at the flea market last week?" Tears would immediately dry up, and she'd stomp off muttering to herself. It made her SO mad! She was a proto-Karen.

I detest people like that! But we have a gal in town who shows up at auctions & loudly greets different people. Oh Hi Sally you gonna bid on all the Pyrex? Oh Carl they got Vaseline Marbles, you gonna out bid everybody on those again, they should just let you buy them so you can leave & everybody can get on with their day. I’m telling you we all just wanna ring her neck! AND she hardly ever bids on things!

What happened to the copper tea kettle? Always enjoy watching Thanks Scored me what looked like a weird fry pan that looked almost new at goodwill. $6 Turned out it was marked on the bottom as 1801 paul revere and googles lensed it and it immediately showed ebay listings with sold comps of $70- 100 preowned. Its a shallow 12in brass bottom and side crepe pan.BOLO

I love copper bottoms myself. When production went to China the metal became thinner. The heavy stuff is American made. I have an 8 inch and twelve inch crepe pan myself, Good score for you. My rarest one is a flippy handled latch pail pot. Instead of two handles on sides it has one handle that goes from side to side to carry like a pail.

The Jack Daniel's item looks like a sign the beverage distributor provided to liquor stores/bars. I'll bet if you get it powered up the screen will show an advertisement with details on the different types of whiskey with the aim of helping customers decide which bottle to buy (or shot to order). My parents owned a tavern and had a lot of signs provided by the distributors, if they work they can go for a lot of dough as the "home barroom" culture continues to grow and JD is a popular brand. You have a very good eye for cool old stuff 🙂

@@beardedthriftmachine I was going to add my 7 cents worth, as well. If you read the top portion of the sign, "Experience Whiskey the American Way" and add to it the JD, the Gentleman Jack, and the Old Forester. Since all three are listed and pictured, it is not a push towards one technique or process but more of a "Made in America, Buy American" stand. A gentle nudge to stay away from Scotch whisky and Irish whiskey and a VERY subtle way to say keep away from Canadian whisky. Canada and Ireland produce whisky while Scotland and USA produce whiskey. JD and GJ are both Tennessee Sour Mash whiskies while Old Forester is a Bourbon Whiskey.
