If you were to a Legends version of this, I already know what you would pick for Phantom Menace, and maybe the rest of the films.

Rogue One was so much more fun having already read Catalyst. It was a great tie-in and the payout was awesome.

Great video! I'm more of a EU guy, but this gave me the spark to also start reading the Canon novels. You've quickly risen to be my most favourite channel to watch. Thank you for all the videos!

This was a fantastic video. It also sets a good timeline up since I've been trying to figure out where to begin in the Canon and also how to have them mirror the order of the movies

Thanks for the Advice. And I liked that you added the Clone Wars movie, and I intend to read the Dark Disciple next.

I love this video. I actually came to start reading Star Wars books because I saw a recommendation of a book to watch if I had liked Andor. (Lost Stars). Looking forward to more videos like this.

Thanks for these insights Jonathan. A long-time movie fan, I’ve only recently gotten into the books, both Legends and Canon. As I’ve been collecting these books, it is interesting to discover how and where these tie into the films. Because the sheer number of novels is daunting, I’ve decided to start with the Youtini Ultimate reading order (I think it’s called). I’m just about to start Bloodline to round out their ‘foundational five’ and I’ve enjoyed everything so far. I’m looking forward to so many of these, particularly the Thrawn books, since so much has been said about them and the character is not referenced at all, IIRC, in the movies. I’m just starting with the series shows too, so I’m just meeting characters such as Ahsoka, etc., which I see are important characters in the books.

I thought this list was great. Didn't mind the Tarkin pick but I'm a fan of the character and Luceno SW in general so that helps. As for Empire I can see Thrawn working there, but first thing that came to mind for me was Battlefront Twilight Company by Alexander Freed. I haven't read that book in years and yet I can't not think of it when I watch The Battle of Hoth.
@jonathankoan9 ай бұрын
That’s a good point. I’m not the biggest Twilight Company fan, so it didn’t come to mind as quickly for me, but that’s a good pick.

Thank you for this video! I really enjoy the way you tell about these books cause outside of republic commando books I'm really lost on what to read about Star Wars lol. Question: your book shelves look very interesting will you do a tour of your book collection someday?

My favorite movie is The Siege of Mandalore, 4 ep finale TCW. I know it isn't a "movie" but it's the best
@jonathankoan9 ай бұрын
That’s a good one. My recommendation for a canon novel would be Inquisitpr: Rise of the Red Blade My Legends Rec might be unconventional: but I think The Unifying Force, the final New Jedi Order book might have some thematic similarities.

@Revan-sk4qx9 ай бұрын
Solid list here. I probably would’ve included Leia Princess of Alderaan and Lost Stars somewhere but I’m not sure where… probably as some OT books
@st.sithis79339 ай бұрын
Now that you mention it Princess of Alderaan probably helps getting back into A New Hope the same way the Kenobi show is probably supposed to. They're both coming of age stories for the twins too. I haven't read the Han and Leia book so I can see Lost Stars fitting decently with RotJ. They both have similar spots on the timeline and the scale of the book might make it match well with the finale of the saga.

I would say Bloodline goes with The Last Jedi more, but that's only because Rian Johnson contributed plot points for it. Kinda gives it "Extra Canon" status lol
@st.sithis79339 ай бұрын
I always most associated Bloodline with The Force Awakens because of the Hosnian scene. I felt like TFA needed more heavy lifting from outside material to get me to care about the resistance. Ofc it also helps understand Ben better for The Last Jedi so that's still fair to say. First thing that comes to mind for TLJ for me personally is the Rise of Kylo Ren comic series even though I'm pretty sure its release was more closely tied to Rise of Skywalker.

Really glad to see Bloodlines in there as episode 7 felt rather flat to me but this was the important Leia story that was missing from the films. Not sure any book could make episode 9 watchable though. How about books to read for the TV shows?

Might make another list for that. I do have book video for Ahsoka and Book of Boba Fett, but I might make one for all the Disney Plus series.

Lost Stars!? Better than Thtawn for TESB...
@jonathankoan18 күн бұрын
I think Lost Stars hits the theme and tone, and feel more than Thrawn does, and Thrawn is much more character, based and set way earlier in the timeline.

Can you make one for the shows : I know you made to hype up for shows videos and I appreciate it. But can you make if you like this show read this book. I’m a fan of the mandalorian but I don’t know what book to read I cannot find any about the children pf the watch

I’ll plan to compile one for the shows eventually. But in the meantime I have a Journey to Ahsoka series and a video on recommended reading for the Book of Bova Fett.

Cool idea. Have you read Spark of the Resistance by Justina Ireland? I didn't see a review. Or is there no review because you didn't care for the book? I'm currently trying to read all sequel era books. Really liked Shadow of the Sith.

I did read Spark of the Resistance. I thought it was ok, not particularly special. There isn’t a review since I read it before I started the channel.
