I would leave links to all these books, but you're smart people. You can find them yourself, go buy them from a cool independent book shop!

As a writer, the baby name books come in very handy 😅

Thank you for the recommendations! One of my favorites is John McWhorter. He's got some good ones like 'Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue' and 'Nine Nasty Words'. He also has two available on The Great Courses called 'The Story of Human Language' and 'Language A to Z' that I enjoyed. I also enjoyed your books, too. They were great 👍

One type of book that I collect for a historical reason: then and now. It shows pictures of famous buildings of the past, and what the site looks like today. I have books for Las Vegas, Omaha, Kansas City, and my hometown of Wichita, KS.

My sister gave me a book called Descriptionary, which is sort of a dictionary only organized by category rather than alphabetically. I haven't read much of it, but it's really useful as a reference, or if I'm writing about something that I have less familiarity with. Another book that I got for myself at about the same time is called Made in America, author unknown. It defines a lot of uniquely American words and phrases and gives a short etymology about what makes these terms specifically American, and what they might be in other cultures/locations. That's a fascinating collection, and I highly recommend it or similar books relating to any culture you're interested in.

Loving the rainbow shirt and dungarees look! I've got a big birthday coming up later this year and my... Wishlist just doubled in length thanks to this video. I definitely only mean 'Wishlist' there 😗🎶 And yes, David Crystal is indeed based up here in Wales.

When I was in a wedding qbout fifteen years back, the bride got appreciation gifts for each of us. Mine was a big baby name book (with the caveat that, no I wasn't pregnant and wasn't planning to be in the near future) so if anyone was the childless owner of several baby name books, I was before you.

Your books are on my list of books to buy.....sooner rather than later. Two of my favorite books actually have the same title: Haunted; one by James Herbert, the other by Tamara Thorne. James's book was made into a movie, but I like the visuals in Tamara's just a bit better.

Jess Zafarris fairly recently released her book Words from Hell. I haven't read it yet, but I hear lots of good things about it. It is about the more colourful words in the English language.
