Hello Scotty, can I ask you a question please. I just bought a 2000 Lexus ES300 BUT 20 minutes after I bought it the engine light came on. I drove it 60 miles back home and now the transmission doesn't want to work at all. Do you think it is a mechanical fault wirh the trans? The fluid looks really old. If I change it out and put a new filter in, do you think it will work? The car has 207000 miles and I do not know the vehicle's history.

I agree, mileage IS important but don't forget age is still age. Gaskets and seals, etc are still much older and possibly dried out. Also one should check out the under carriage because it's very easy for an older car that has maybe sat in a garage for long periods to become rusty even though it hasn't been taken out as much.

Scotty's videos are so full of great information. A good way to buy a lux car, most people like me could not afford new.. Talk to your elderly neighbors or even people you see at the supermarket. Have a card or print out with your details, most people are friendly when you make nice comments about what they drive. However there's a fine line between friendly and creepy, so be considerate. When I see a nice car, I will only approach the person if they are with someone, I do not want to create stress. A friend of mine purchased mercedes suv from his neighbor down the street, the gentleman lost his license and his son was going to bring it to the dealership. My friend offered more than the dealer, and now has a vehicle he appreciates. He keeps in touch with the neighbor to see if he needs a lift, when he is going to work or downtown.

I think my 2012 ALFA ROMEO GIULIETTA 1750 QV was made by toyota, cause after 10 years it's still running like a dream, just like new from the day I purchased it, and it's a looker too. Just did the 2nd cambelt change and annual oil service this week and the Alfa dealer here in Boksburg South Africa found nothing extra to do and no faults/errors on that computer reader.

Hey Scottie, Good morning. I have watched most of your videos and one thing that I have noticed is that you use a different scan tool on almost every video you do. Whic one is the best of the ones you use.

That book in the glove box looks like the Gideon Bible you find in motel rooms. Not a bad idea. When you buy a car these days you better know how to pray so they don't go haywire!🙏😇

Good video. Just a quick note: Timing belt age also counts...not just the km. The ruber gets old. I wouldn't extend it for more than 5 years unless I can check/see its condition (in some cars is not that easy:) )

Great buyer tool video….I’m near your old old hometown of Houston. My mom has a 2004 Toyota Avalon that has never spent the night outside the garage. It has 30k miles and still smells new. She switches driving between this and the 2004 Sienna van, which is the grocery getter. Each year the mechanic who inspects it tells us to please let him know when she’s ready to sell….he’s been telling us that for years. We literally could put a window sticker on it (it’s in glove box) and you would swear it’s showroom new. So they’re out there….we just threw new tires on it since they were 10 years old to be safe, but had plenty of tread on them.

The steering wheel, seats and drivers floor mat and carpet is always the 1st things to check on a older car with real low mileage. I just received my Moms 2005 Chevy malibu 2.2L and it only has 66000 miles on it. No rust ( michigan) because it sat in a dry garage most it's life. I don't need it because my wife and i have nice low mileage newer cars so i will end up selling it here soon. Most i seen advertise have 200,000 + miles on them and are all rusted away.

My 2008 Honda CR-V EXL has 153728 miles on the odometer. It actually has over 68.007 miles missing. The only reason I know is that my insurance company (GEICO) gave me a free membership with Carfax and I didn a history on the car. It was purchased in Connecticut in 2008. The last reported work done on the car from the 1st owner, the car has 199,410. When the second owner (my partner from work) went to get it inspected, it was reported to have just over 132,000 miles. He bought it from a guy who goes to auto auctions and he specializes in CR-Vs. the car has had no problems with the engine and transmission. One of the security officer at my job has a 02 ES300 and he’s the original owner it has over 200,000 miles but he has the replace the transmission (I’m pretty sure he didn’t change the transmission fluid). It drives smooth. Also. CD is stuck in the player. Also, it could use to be repainted (it’s white) and the rugs could use a cleaning.

The elderly market is crazy! If you want a large car, look at older buicks and oldsmobiles. They're usually in fantastic shape, in and out, and the heirs just want to be rid of Grandpa's car.

Yes! I was looking for a good used car for work and when I saw plastic tab missing I walked away. Dan T is right it may mean nothing, but it is a good red flag. After watching Scotty's videos I ended up with a 2007 Lexus RX 350.

Guys another tip for used cars with low mileage!!! Always look at the gas pedal, if it has low mileage and the pedal looks almost polished (almost no rubber markings) or with very noticeable wear... RUN. That indicates the car is lot older than stated

My wife and I gave our grandson, her 2004 Chrysler Pacifica Limited, all wheel drive. It had 92,000 miles on it. We bought it from the dealership, with less than 6,000 miles on it, back in 2005. It was the first 5 ***** rated vehicle, for safety. Had front and rear side air bags, as standard features. I have two different folders with maintenance and repair records. These well cared for vehicles are far and few between. When you can find one, grab it. Even if it's above Blue Book price. We had people who wanted to buy it, but we wanted our grandson to have a safe and reliable car.
