Personally, I have never regretted leaving the care home, I’m even being paid higher here than the care home, Overtime here is double salary, so no need to do agency. However, I was in her situation when I was in Chelmsford financially, but moving to Nottingham has been the best decision I’ve ever made here in the Uk, so I will say I think it’s just about finding the right trust and department ( I always tell people to join specialties that will give them enhanced rates as well) cos I’m currently doing a Bsc that is funded by them at Nottingham Trent university (those in the care homes are funding their own studies and their studies is even done online). Overall, I will say the NHS isn’t bad, you just need to find the right one, pray about your choices and be a reliable person as well.

It all depends on what you are looking for. If u want money start with care home and if u want to be more knowledgeable on the Uk health system and career growth start with the NHS. I mostly tell people coming in new to the uk to start with the nhs and it adds a good record to ur portfolio, you can always move at anytime.

@@OlamideAyodamola prepare a good personal statement for NHS jobs. You can be lucky to get a job with no experience but I should think one year healthcare experience is good enough to get a job with NHS. Also check different NHS hospital vacancies to get an idea what experience they usually require. Check out a youtuber by the name of Frontline gist, she works for NHS and is a recruiter for them as well. Send her questions, she will answer. She also said people with no healthcare experience must not be intimidated by nurses who have experience, if your personal statement is good NHS can consider you for a job.

As a few people have said, it all depends on what you want. The NHS is a service, care homes/ private hospitals are businesses. If you are planning to stay in the UK, you must look beyond your “now” salary. The NHS pension and holiday policy is second to none. If you actually sit down and work out what the take home is working in the NHS with some o/t or bank, compared to working just agency, now with IR35, it’s not that different. You have to take into account that working agency you don’t get holidays, sick pay etc

I work in the nhs i earn over 2300 a month. I work at least 15 days in the month if so much and sometimes 9 to 11 if I take leave. We are encouraged to book annual leave regularly. My contracted hrs are 37.5 and I make sure it is kept within that range and never go over. I get 4 days request off every month and I work mostly 3 times a week with the odd 4 days and 2 days sometimes. If you are really smart sometimes we add the request days off with our annual leave to extend the days we are actually off for. If you do not like your hours you can change to early or late shifts. The rates are different for nights, bank holidays and weekends. I have different working incentives at my trust like overtime which is 19 pounds an hr and bank which ranges from 22 to 45 pounds an hr depending on the rates at whatever time. All NHS are different none are the same and I believe that people should definitely be aware of this. I have colleagues who are in the NHS however at a different trust and the incentive rates are very much different to ours. I think if you go into this just seeking money you will never be happy where ever you go. Find somewhere that actually works for you. It has so many fields of nursing and we continue to fit ourselves in that common bracket.

I haven't signed with bank yet but if I do I should be making an extra income which is sizeable depending on how much I work. I have friends who make over 3500 doing these things. Also in our trust if we want to lessen our contractual hours we can and if we want the schedule to work for us due to child care it is changed with no issues. Like I said no one nhs, care home or private hospital is the same. I hope your friend finds what works best for her.

I worked in the NHS for 7yrs as a HCA before going into nursing and I have valid argument that the NHS basic pay may not be brilliant but other add-ons plus the job security plus opportunities for growth are all factors that make it a job for life if you may. However, even as HCA you can earn 3k comfortably by doing bank shifts after your contract hour. I did earn 3k (salary+bank) as a HCA and again that's if you choose your employer diligently. London may pay you higher but the cost of living is definitely higher and sucks everything away while u get something good outside London and still save and live comfortably. It's all about being diligent and strategic. NHS surely is good for starting before going scouting. I have friends who are nurses and they do agency earning about 7k per month (approx 80k per year) easily. So everyone to his/her own. Your lifestyle etc all other factors that can affect your income too. I am not an international recruit by the way but a British citizen.

Depending on the hours you work, you could try and supplement your income either by working bank, or a few days a month in a care home via an agency. “Mobile nursing” jobs pay well and generally come with company cars / car allowance, but as a single parent, it doesn’t sound like that would be an option for you..

I'm young and in the care home and I so much love my job. I have kids to take care of alone here in the UK and so NHS is not an option, both with the pay and the flexibility of shifts I enjoy here. So maybe someday I might consider working for the nhs, but I don't know when that will ever be.

Hey Nanelle, can someone work in a care home as he or she is doing a top up degree in Nursing from a diploma? Or it's strictly a hospital???
@blessesdineverything4254
@blessesdineverything4254 2 жыл бұрын
Normally, your training would include placements which will be organised by the university that's for undergraduate but not sure if it's the same with the top up. However l think if you have to make a choice, go to the hospital for your training as the care you would provide plus the experience cannot be compared with the care home. I hope this helps

I don't think it's possible to earn £85 a year in a nursing home. It could be possible if you work 365 shifts a year, each shift being 14 hrs.

As a patient the nhs is so valuable the staff are fabulous, hardworking and skilled. The government take advantage of the old school approach of “nursing is a calling” and that nurses and other staff won’t down tools and walk out. Yes it takes a certain person to thrive and be a good competent skilled and compassionate nurse but we have houses to buy and families to raise. Any professional should be paid for their skills and 25-30k don’t cut it. The level of education required and continued learning, the skills and care nurses need to have to maintain safely they require being paid for this. The NHS no longer fund degree training as such I owe nothing to the nhs in that regard so will definitely be going where the money is and also where I can practice safely and not be thrown under the bus when things do go wrong.
@NatashaWarden
@NatashaWarden 5 ай бұрын
Yeah personally I feel nurses should be on 40k or 50k... It's a degree level role, saving lives and it requires a lot of scientific knowledge. In some cases nurses can treat you as well (some GP surgeries nurses see you instead of the doctor if it isn't a new diagnosis it's an existing health issue that needs follow up ).
@NatashaWarden
@NatashaWarden 5 ай бұрын
Actually there's gonna be nursing apprenticeships where they do fund the degree and you work full time so get paid too. It won't be 30k during the apprenticeship it'll be like 25k but it's better pay than nurses during a standard degree who don't get paid for the student nursing hours they have to put in..
