I live in Indiana, where the winters are below freezing so I can’t keep her outside all year round unfortunately but I make it work! Soil mix: my typical succulent mix is a combo of half succulent/cactus potting soil and half bonsai jack gravel. 💡indoors: If it’s growing too long and leggy, that tells you it’s not getting enough light. She can sit right underneath a grow light or your brightest window (at least 750 foot candles if measuring with a light meter) for at least four to six hours of direct sunlight a day. Outdoors, she lives a space that gets direct sunlight for 2 hours a day but shade the rest of the time. It may also turn into a beautiful green/burgundy shade when sun stressed. Wow this couldn't have come at a better time for me. My elderly neighbor just gave me her 30+ year jade plant because it's overgrown and too heavy for her to care for. I plan on repoting this weekend and separating to give her some of the plant back in a smaller pot but it's kind of intimidating, could definitely use the tips! I miss my Jade plant so dearly :( I got it from a church lady when I was little as just a snippet off of her own beautiful large Jade plant. It grew so big and beautiful and then while I was moved away from home for a little bit she got root rot and died 😭😭😭 will forever adore these beautiful Jade plants

I give my jade milk every couple of months. She loves it!

ENDED BADLY: Bought a cute little one of these at the grocery store. It was 8 inches tall in a small pot. Over the years I repotted it a few times. It got too big for the living room so I put it on a four wheeled dolly and rolled it outside in full sun from May-October. When it came back inside for the winter, it would bloom in December (small white flowers). 18 years went by and it became too wide to fit through the doorway and was too heavy to pick up. One night in late Fall a hard frost was coming so I tried to protect it with a plastic shower curtain (which barely covered the top) and a King sized quilt, which didn’t cover the whole pot so I couldn’t tie it down all the way. I pushed it under the desk (on the brick patio) up next to the house hoping it would be sheltered enough. It didn’t work. It froze & turned black. I had to take an ax to chop the trunks apart so I could try to save parts of it. That didn’t work either. Sadly the entire thing died and I felt really bad, it was a beautiful SHRUB!!!

My Jade propagates herself. Every leaf that falls off roots itself. My dad bought her for me when she was but a dozen leaves. She’s grown and shrunk from several feet high and wide back down to the main stem. I’ve given away so many babies throughout the years I can’t count them all. She’s been with me all over the country while I was in the military. She’s 50 years old. I intend to will her to my son.
