It was good to see the respect you have for your father Adrian - that was a nice touch - I lost my father on 22nd May aged 92 - his family bought the first T20 in our parts in the late 40s/early 50s - he knew these tractors inside out - I miss him this father's day and every day - cherish yours while you have him

Likewise. My father was similar vintage, he would’ve been 91 this august but I lost him in 1993, way to soon. Cherish your father Adrian, he’ll be a fountain knowledge and, if he’s like mine he’ll be your hero too. Great video, hope there’s many more to come. 👍👏👏👏

I'm so glad to see that tractor going again and most importantly, the joy it brought your father. I was born in the year that your father bought the tractor that you were talking about. I have a digital copy of an old cine film of my great-uncle holding me in his arms as he drove a Massey Ferguson 35 (red one) as pulling a hay trailer. Assuming that was taken in June when he typically made hay, I would have only been about 3 months old. You brought a smile to my face also.

Thanks Adrian for another great video and especially meeting your father. I have been restoring a 1950 TED20 (petrol/paraffin) bought as a non runner so I know that first start up feeling. Harry Ferguson's 3 point hitch and 'system' was a brilliant invention and I want to preserve a little bit of our great engineering heritage. I'm 78 and don't have any farming background but respect and appreciate the work that goes into dairy farming. I follow Tom Pemberton too. Kind regards to you and your family . Bob

Be prepared for a War & Peace response: Great to see the Fergie finally turn over Adrian. A couple of tips and observations after watching today's video. The pinholes in the fuel tank is clearly down to rust and the thinness of the metal used in the construction, short of replacing the tank, you could remove it and flush it through with detergent & water to prevent fire, then braze the holes, my dad was a dab hand at fuel tank repairs. My guess is there is a lot of unseen pitting on that tank and if you want to preserve the original tank the solution might be to have it galvanised and pressure tested The copper washers on the banjo joints were always a pain to get a good seal, hermetite sealant usually does the trick. I know the frustration of trying to get to awkward bolts and leaking pipes from my time as a heavy goods mechanic. Rather that focusing on the awkwardness of the location 'work smart' and remove any obstacles that prevent you from reaching your goal. Yes it may give you extra work but in the long run it will definitely make the task easier if you remove stuff that blocks your access. Rust removal. Use white vinegar to remove rust. If your not planning to paint the tractor brush the surfaces with a mixture of waste engine oil and petrol choose a warm day and the petrol will evaporate quickly leaving the exposed metal with a protective covering of oil that sheds of the rain. You could used diesel but the lingering smell can be quite sickening. Smoking exhaust on start up is quite normal. The old Cummings engines on lorries back in the fifties and sixties were renowned for their black smoke. That's why they introduced laws to reduce visible pollution. Once the engine gets hot the black smoke will reduce. If you ever see white smoke NO it's not a new Pope, It means you have leaking cylinder head gasket. Finally. Throttle linkage. A real pain to adjust, lot's of trial and error to get it right. I have never worked on tractors so take or leave this suggestion. I am thinking there is a butterfly valve on the end of that linkage similar to what you would see in a carburettor. A circular inlet valve on a pivot pin. The area your point out on the video Likely as not the pin, or if it has them, the brass bushes are worn. If you can remove that inlet valve you might be able to make new pin or bushes from brass rod. The linkage or the linkage mountings may also be worn or bent causing the linkage to twist and jam as you work the throttle. Going back to what I said earlier about 'working smart' when tackling awkward tasks. If you remove the air filter housing and that small reserve fuel tank that will give you much better access to inspect and fix that linkage and those other tasks you mentioned earlier in the video. Be sure to inspect the ball joints on the linkage for wear, often overlooked when being serviced, water ingress into the ball joint speeds wear and tear, Overall these are fairly minor issues and I know you'll find a solution to fix all these things. Looking forward to seeing the final outcome.

My dad died six years ago on the 13th of June and I still miss the crack we had in the workshop, he was only 77 and spent his last years looking after my mum who had Alzheimer's and eventually died last year, we had no idea how bad she was ontil he went and should have been more help to him but he didn't ask and covered all his difficulties with a joke, he was a mechanic who became a farmer by default and spent his time fixing scrap just because he could not because it was the best thing to do. Good days!

A bit of advice on your throttle. Remove the flat side plate on the injection pump 2 flathead screws and spray the 4 pump elements with oil especially below the 4 springs this can be done with the engine running when you hit the throttle the elements should rotate freely as they pump up and down. This is a simple job and can fix a lot off throttle respone problems. Have a good day from co. Donegal.

My father’s Ferguson was the most treasured tractor he ever owned. He started his decline in 2015 and his Fergie sat at the farm until 2019 when I started trying to get it going again. I would fiddle with it when I would visit. One weekend I got it going but barely. My mother and I brought Daddy outside and sat him in a chair. I worked with it cutting grass and bushes. While I was making rounds on it I glanced at him and his face was lit up like he was a kid at the circus. It runs like a champ today and I always think about how my father loved it when I am driving her. I inherited it when he passed in 2020. I plan to strip it down, repair and repaint her to her original glory.

I don't think even Stephen Spielberg would have thought to have presented such a fantastic video on Father's Day. A tremendous presentation. You were nervous about the tractor starting. I was nervous about the tractor starting. You were thrilled. I was thrilled. Jasus, that's Oscar winning stuff. You were working on the old tractor while your beautiful new Massey was in the background. Generations apart. You were loving the time with your dad and then you mentioned your kids arriving home from school. Again, the next generation. Brilliant stuff. And Hudson (I hope I have the name right) panned out in the background the whole time. Not a care in the world because, he's safe and happy with his human family. A lot of us writing, including me, no longer have our fathers with us but you've brought back so many wonderful memories with this video. As we say in Cork, "Pure dacent, like"

Great to see your father my father got a cab in the 50s and it said it saved him a lot of tobacco as the wind wasn’t blowing across his pipe. He would have done long journeys of 30 miles from home back then on a tractor. One time he towed a old Dublin tram to Wicklow and delivered hay to Hughes dairy in Dublin so a cab was necessary.
