I also kept going back and forth between "he's actually stalking/watching her" and "she's going crazy with paranoia" - at one point I also wondered if both of them were afraid of each other and the more often they saw each other the more afraid and paranoid they both became. So many of these types of movies have a big twist at the end after misdirecting the viewers for the majority of the film, so that consideration also weighed on me thinking that maybe the creepy guy wasn't necessarily that bad.

This movie also speaks on the level of patriarchy too. The main character's husband thinks she making things up and being "hysterical". The serial killer telling her she should apologize to him and she did. Plus the main character's demeanor being passive, not challenging what she knows is wrong and just putting aside her needs for that of her husband's speaks showed a stereotype of what it means to be feminine.

*Wow. This is one of the best psychological thrillers in a long time. I say it as a very sophisticated moviegoer. NO SPOILERS ahead. Everything is according to the classics of the genre: a mysterious atmosphere, a languid and viscous storyline, growing suspense and fear-mongering, gray, gloomy and dank Bucharest - gotta give it to the director in general and director of photography in particular for a stylish and aesthetic picture, charming local characters (Irina is especially gorgeous), a hopeless feeling of impending nightmare, the uncertainty of the ending: whether it’s mind games and lapse of reason over longing and loneliness of the main character, or something terrible is actually happening and she is in the midst of it, and of course the stunning performance of the actress in the leading role, the supporting actors are also very well cast. Fans of the films like "Black Swan", "The Girl on the Train", "Swallow", "Secret Window", "Mulholland Drive", "I see you", "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", "Angel of mine" and so on - are gonna love it 100%.*

For the people saying that she should just have closed her curtains from early on like normal people do. Ask yourselves whether or not that would have improved or dented her odds even more. If her curtains were closed from the get-go, she wouldn't have been aware of the creep and consequently would not have been as alert as she was. It's a good thing that she got spooked early on. The movie is already 1 year old!!! This does feel more like a direct-to-TV feature than anything by IFC Films and Shudder This movie is another example of gaslighting mixed with paranoia of a young woman’s inability to distinguish reality The fact that she’s wandering in a foreign country where hardly anyone speaks English makes it that much harder There’s clever camera tricks to fool the audience, a great mixture of sound making it feel uneasy, and Maika’s performance is terrific You really feel her frustration trying to convince everybody she’s not insane feeling legitimately afraid for her life The acting, the editing, sound, and cinematography are top-notch for small film of this caliber This is a story we’ve seen before and some of the pacing is a bit off-kilter along with some fake out sequences But the final scene is brutally intense as you’d expect leaving you with a feeling of shock and relief at the same time An arresting tale of female anxiety as well as a study of constant fear women go through every day like a modern day ‘Rear Window’ as well as older thrillers

I liked this movie. A slow burn for sure, so if you’re not into that, then skip it. The ending was a bit questionable but other than that, I enjoyed it and was genuinely creeped out.
