This is another explosive interview from one of the great Juju back up singer & dancer. My observation is revolved around the issue of royalties and entitlements. It is a good question to ask, but at the same time it must balanced and put in perspective. I’m happy that Mr Owomoyela did not disparage KSA. Rather, has confirmed what a fair man he is. He confirmed that money realised from the stage performance’s was shared accordingly by percentage. He also clearly admitted that KSA does pay royalty albeit perhaps not regular but my suspicion is that royalty can only be paid when the principal himself has been duly remunerated. We all know that in Nigeria there is no real system to collect royalties like abroad. There are so many stories of record label owners & promoters who have duped artistes. There are many contending forces to deal with. Elder Femi’s account is consistent with some of the other accounts told. Generally the issue of pay, terms & conditions is not just peculiar to the entertainment industry. It’s the same situation with lecturers hence the ASSU strikes, with Nurses, et al. Even abroad workers many atimes demand for pay rises but often they are rebuffed or refused. In the case of KSA I hear Elder Femi mention something about Abioro. Perhaps he has forgotten that KSA has not collected any royalties from those albums he did with the TYC label. A few years ago the High Court ruled in his favour for a back payment of N500m. The question is have the TYC label paid KSA? My guess is as good as yours! With these kind of interviews it would be more constructive if questions are asked around what the band boys themselves have done with the money they made and the fame that shone on them. The focus should be on them not their bosses. Trying to paint their principal black is not right in my opinion. All in all I wish Elder Femi well, long life and good health. No matter what is said he was part of the band for years and he made some good music. Kudos again to NigbatiTv for bringing another veteran. Hopefully the full interview would be aired soon. Great program as always. Please Baba mentioned Ashiko Band....In my family history it is always mentioned that Pa. Jacob Fawehinmi started that brand of music, in Ondo town. Brother, is that a thread you can help pull? Not absolutely certain, but someone like Uncle Toye Agagun might be familiar with a part of that story, given how close he his to the Fawehinmi's. I had an argument with someone who was comparing sunny ade to obey on the interview you had with uncle segun awe.I aways argue with facts and evidences, this is one my evidences that sunny ade is worse than obey going by the way they treated their band boys.Have met lot of them one on one when I was in London and right here in America, I swear you don't want hear what they have to say about their former boss. Though they too had some shortcomings as well but nevertheless.As a matter of fact 98% of band leaders in Nigeria have similar way of treating their band boys,We belong to the same industry right in America,so I aways come across them in functions and party, we talk and relate like one family.further more, the only Band leader who some of his band boys spoke well about is Femi kuti the son of Fela kuti.Sunny Ade does not release passport to his band boys not until recently.
