Jeanne Rosner, MD and Ed Park, PhD (from Neuroreserve) discuss the concept of Ikigai. A Japanese word which means what is your reason for getting out of bed in the morning. This word originated in Okinawa, Japan where they have the largest population of centenarians (people living to 100 years or greater) than anywhere else. Many Okinawans live by the strongly ensconced culture of ikigai.
Studies have shown that when one lives with a sense of purpose and meaning, one can live significantly longer. A sense of purpose helps one live with more energy, satisfaction, fulfillment, peace, gratitude and resilience.
Studies have shown that having a sense of purpose is very important for keeping your long-term brain health and reducing the risk of dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases.
Jeanne shares the concept of Ikigai as a useful guide to find balance and focus.
