Kumihimo is a Japanese traditional craft that mainly uses thin silk or cotton threads. Like knitting and weaving, it is considered a type of textile technology, and during the Edo period, it was actively produced as a decoration for samurai swords. Currently, they are developing new Iga kumihimo products such as straps that match the current lifestyle, as well as accessories such as kimono obijime, which is attracting attention from overseas as traditional Japanese culture. The characteristic of Iga Kumihimo is the beauty that each silk thread dyed in various colors shines in the light and intertwines with each other.

Absolutely love this gem of a person keeping this tradition alive. Makes me want to make it my mission to preserve these historic trades.

Love this art form, thank you for sharing something so precious with us. It goes so far beyond just being fashion with its rich history. It's immensely kind and gracious of you to say you hope more people will learn to work silks (whether that's on marudai or takadai), and I hope we both have long lives such that one day I might be able to meet you, and at least watch you, if not learn from you.

I would adore learning this kind of weaving. It looks do peaceful. I spin yarn and make bobbin laces. This is right up my alley. 😮😮
